The Pottermore Insider updated today to announce that Pottermore.com will be coming out of the Beta phase and open to everyone in early April 2012.
The Beta period for Pottermore was extended indefinitely toward the end of last year. The Insider explains why this decision was made:
We always knew Pottermore would be incredibly popular, which is why we
made the decision to only open to one million Beta users to begin with.
We wanted to make sure that we had a really good understanding of how
people want to use the site and which bits we’d need to modify before
giving more people access.
We gathered some incredibly useful feedback from our Beta users, and it
became clear that our original platform wouldn’t be suitable when
millions more users came on to the site. So we made a big decision: to
move Pottermore to an entirely different platform set up. This
‘invisible’ change has involved a lot of work behind the scenes but it
will enable our users to get the best from Pottermore as it grows and
develops.
The Pottermore team notes that, through fan feedback, they have decided to add more exclusive content and features to the site, including sounds. Stick close to Leaky as we continue to report on the latest updates surrounding Pottermore.

Fascinating… Just a short while ago I had heard it may never open… I wonder how long it will take before COS is activated?
I can’t wait…. for the “Scottish book” to come out, which sounds infinitely more interesting than Pottermore, but of course, I’ll have a look at Pottermore when I finally get the chance.
Won_Two: I never believed that it wouldn’t open, because they needed the site for ebooks, but it is nice to have an indication of when it will open. I wouldn’t be surprised if the ebooks part of the site appears around the same time, but I think CoS won’t appear until a least a month afterwards when the initial rush of new people joining has died down a bit.

I may be a Beta user, but I’ve gone on the site twice. I beat the first book in a few hours. I was sorely disappointed with Pottermore.

This is wonderful news. I have enjoyed being a Pottermore beta user and am looking forward to more people being able to use it (and to progress beyond the first book).

Looking forward to interacting with more users, because I know for a fact that one million people aren’t signed up anymore. I haven’t been on in months either and hopefully the new features will entice me to go on more. Also, we need more Hufflepuffs to help us win the house cup!

Aaaarrrgh! I can’t wait, just when I was about to give up on checking the site! This is great news, I don’t have another exam until May so I’ll be on it 24/7. XD

Yay!!!! All my friends can get in now!!!!
I’ve really enjoyed being a beta user. The site was challenging when I first started in August; potions wouldn’t work right, wizards duel was not working, etc. However, the site has improved a lot since.
I’m wondering if there is any news on what will happen to the beta users. Will we get to keep our points? Will they reset the House points?
