NaNoWriMo

I’ve been waiting for the bugs to get all worked out of
the new system we’re using for blogging and then November came upon us.
For those of you who don’t know, in November a writing challenge called
NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) takes place. All participants
have the entire month of November to write a 50,000 word novel. I know
it sounds daunting, and if you don’t write every day then it is
definitely a big challenge. The goal of this challenge is to get people
to just write and write and write and finish that 50,000 word novel.
It’s an incredibly challenging but rewarding experience. I am about
2000 words behind, not including today’s word count.
Because of
that I’ve had a very limited time for extra curriculars because school
is taking up all my available time and then NaNoWriMo gets all my free
time, not including the other commitments that I have. But more on
NaNoWriMo…
Each novel has to start somewhere. Every book you
see on a shelf started out as an idea in someone’s mind. That person
had to sit down at a computer, or with a notebook and pen, and get that
idea of his or her head and onto paper. That is how Harry Potter
started- nothing more than an idea. And it has blossomed into an entire
community and a way of life.
It’s not too late to start
NaNoWriMo-ing! You would have a long way to go to catch up as we’re
already halfway through the month but if you’re dedicated enough you
can do it!
In other news, my all-time favorite musician,
Taylor Swift, has just released a new album titled Fearless. I’ve been
listening to it almost non-stop since I got the album on its release
date, Tuesday. It’s wonderful and is great to listen to while I write.
So
for all you writers out there…do you have any writing habits? Tips?
Rituals you go through? For me I like to have music on and a bottomless
mug of some beverage, usually tea or ice water.
