Rumours of a Cursed Child film have risen again, after whispers in Hollywood of Warner Bros. trying to once again cast Daniel Radcliffe as the leading man have surfaced.

Just over a month ago, the rumours of a Cursed Child film started circulating, when Warner Bros. filed a copyright regarding the play.

Other sources reported that the copyright was filed to cover a range of services, just to ensure nobody else coined the name in a different format (e.g.: TV / animations, etc).

Back in February,  J.K. Rowling commented on original confusions surrounding the play’s format, apparently smashing through people’s hopes of seeing the play onscreen:

However, the New York Daily News has recently reported that Warner Bros is looking into making a movie of the (very successful) West End play, even saying that Daniel Radcliffe may reprise his role as Harry Potter!

According to New York Daily News:

“Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry,” according to a well-placed Hollywood source. “However he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon — and that could be until he hits 40.

“We’re also told that the studio has talked about a storyline that focuses on Potter’s son and would be willing to throw huge sums of cash to turn the story into a potential new trilogy.

“Daniel had that job for over a decade with huge success and critical acclaim, but since then he has really established himself as a very strong actor with films like ‘The Woman in Black’ and his Broadway work,” according to our insider. “He doesn’t need to go back for money or to reboot his career, so he will need some persuading.”

Last month, Dan said that he had not ruled out returning to the iconic character, but that it was highly unlikely:

“It would depend on the script,” he said. “The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there! So I am saying, ‘No,’ for now but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”

We know he’s a busy man, but if he was asked in a few years time after the Fantastic Beasts trilogy is over and Warner Bros. have started to look forward to the future, would he turn the part down?

According to The Express, J.K. Rowling’s representatives made contact to comment on the copyright move:

“This type of trademarking is standard practice. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film.”

We look forward to seeing how the series progresses nonetheless!
