Last weekend, J.K. Rowling was interviewed by Lauren Laverne in a Facebook Live event. She answered FAQs about her children’s charity, Lumos. Of course, being the creator of Harry Potter, the topic of her most famous book series came up. As Jo said, the Harry Potter series and it’s fandom is incredibly important to Lumos. In addition to being where Jo got her “start,” the fandom is built upon love for others and fighting the good fight, namely for the underprivileged.

Stars from the Harry Potter films and from the Harry Potter stage play have been doing their part as a part of the Harry Potter family. Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick) have traveled with Lumos and tell of their experiences in the following videos from Lumos’s Facebook page.

More from Warwick Davis can be seen on the Lumose Facebook page.

Even the newest additions to the Harry Potter family are working to take part in the Lumos initiative. J.K. Rowling and the cast of Cursed Child held a special gala performance for Lumos, and J.K. Rowling did her favorite thing–gave a speech (that’s sarcasm, she puts on that Gryffindor bravery to do one of her least favorite activities: public speaking). That just goes to show how important this initiative is. J.K. Rowling is so passionate about working to deinstitutionalize “orphanages” as “child care” because it is an issue that matters, and it is a cause that needs attention.

Even Eddie Redmayne, the leading man for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, signed a Lumos shirt!

There are many ways fans, average members of the Harry Potter family, can contribute to the Lumos initiative. In fact, it’s the fans that matter most. If you are interested in buying a shirt (as seen in many of the photos above) visit this link. Fans come in large numbers, and large numbers make a difference. Even individual efforts make a difference. There are more ways than one to contribute to Lumos–time and effort, not just monetary means. Please visit Lumos’s website for more information.
