Alison Sudol is not a household name. Her character Queenie in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them isn’t even the main character. Yet there is something special about the character Alison Sudol plays. In a recent interview with Bustle, Sudol reveals what makes Queenie so special as well as her initial hesitance to be a part of the Wizarding World. PRP FB 5626

Queenie is not your typical witch. She is outgoing, not restrained by the rules, and has a tendency to read the minds of those around her. All of these qualities stood out to Sudol when she first read the role.

“I fell in love with this idea of this woman who’s this extraordinarily compassionate, warm, loving, fun, mischievous, free-spirited soul, who happens to be able to read minds, and she’s magical,” Sudol says at Fantastic Beasts‘ New York press junket. Recalling her first introduction to the character, she adds with a grin that she thought, “Yes, please, sign me up.”

However Sudol was a bit nervous about the magnitude of this new franchise set in the Wizarding World. Sudol has not been in many movies and has limited experience with the silver screen. She tells bustle.com,

“I did not get the size or magnitude kind of until the screen test, and then I had about a week and a half long panic attack,” she recalls, laughing now at the memory. “But I loved Queenie so much, I just wanted to get out of the way with my own nerves. I wanted to be her, and that was stronger than the fear of, ‘can I do this?'”

Sudol overcame her fear and may even be the breakout star of the film. Queenie along with other characters in the film Fantastic Beast are guaranteed to be dynamic, layered characters as they were created by J.K. Rowling herself. It is exciting to see these characters come to life as the film will be in wide release tomorrow. To read all of Sudol’s interview with bustle.com click here.
