Amongst what looks to be an engaging winter lineup, a plethora of actors from the Harry Potter universe will be gracing stages of London’s West End in early 2017.

As reported by Leaky in October, Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, will be returning to the UK stage as Rosencrantz in the 50th Anniversary Celebratory Production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead . This production of the Tom Stoppard classic, being directed by David Leveaux, returns to the Old Vic Theater where it debuted in 1967 on February 25 through April 29, 2017.

Whos Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Tickets at The Harold Pinter Theatre, West End

Acclaimed actress Imelda Staunton – who played the contemptible Delores Umbridge in Harry Potter 5-7 – also returns to the West End. The Harry Potter actress last appeared on stage as Mama Rose in Gypsy, and will now star in a new production of recently deceased Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Staunton features alongside Game of Thrones actor Conleth Hill in this production directed by James McDonald at the Harold Pinter Theater, February 22 through May 27.

A short summary of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf by the BBC is as follows:

“The play, set on the campus of an American college, tells the story of a decaying marriage and takes place over the space of one evening.”

Don Juan In Soho at Wyndham's Theatre

Popular UK actor David Tennant – who played Barty Crouch in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and is best known for his role in Doctor Who – will play the title role in Patrick Marber’s Don Juan. Marber, who wrote a contemporary version of the Moliere classic which premiered in 2006, will be directing the current production.

The play will run at the Wyndham Theater in Soho March 17 through June 10, and has been described as “savagely funny, disturbingly dark and disgracefully sexy”.

A summary of the play by Official London Theatre is as follows:

“Loosely based on Molière tragicomedy ‘Don Juan’, this savagely funny and filthy modern update transports the action to contemporary London and follows the final adventures of its debauched protagonist – a cruel seducer who lives only for pleasure.

Direction is by Patrick Marber with set and costume designs by Anne Fleischle (who won the Olivier Award for Hangmen at the same venue) and sound and music by Adam Cork.  Further casting will be announced at a later date.”

Along with the highly anticipated 2018 Broadway opening of Cursed Child, Harry Potter fans can find familiar faces on stage as well as in film.
