2017 will see the introduction of a new nighttime show at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Orlando, according to the Orlando Informer!

Rumours were spread around Christmas of the show by Screamscape, and the Orlando Informer just recently confirmed that they have received word that the show is definitely in development by Universal. So what do we know so far?

Orlando Informer reports:

“The as-of-yet-untitled Harry Potter nightly show at Islands of Adventure will take a cue out of the opening celebrations for both Orlando’s and Hollywood’s Hogsmeades and use the iconic Hogwarts Castle as the canvas for a short projected film. Called projection mapping, Disney has been using the technology to great effect for quite some time now, doing such magical things as encasing Cinderella Castle in ice for its Frozen-themed performances.”

Being a part of Universal’s cinematic theme park, one would imagine the show will incorporate scenes from the films, and house-coloured fireworks! We predict that Fantastic Beasts won’t feature, but who knows what potential there is in the future! The performance is apparently set to be something similar to the opening ceremony of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which you can see below:

The Orlando Informer notes that the performance schedule will be tricky during busier times of the year, and report that Universal is looking at randomised performance times, with no published schedule (much alike the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom).

The show is predicted to start in early summer, and expected to last late in to the year at the very least. The website notes the change in greenery around the castle, and suggest that this is perhaps evidence of the required viewing space needed for the projections to be at maximum effectiveness.

We are also given information about the production of the show:

“The original performance, back during Hogsmeade’s opening at Universal Studios Hollywood, was produced by an outside design and production agency called the Thinkwell Group, and it’s likely that it’ll return to produce this new show. The projectors to be utilized will probably be manufactured by Christie (thanks to Universal’s recent partnership with them), and the media that will play out on the castle just might be handled by Moment Factory out of Canada, another returning vendor from earlier this year.”
