Wizards of the Coast sent us more details about their Harry Potter Trading Card game ala Magic the Gathering:
Basic Info
- Each player is a wizard at Hogwarts who can cast spells and use magical creatures when playing the game.
- There will be different levels of play – basic, advanced and expert.
- Each card is fully illustrated with all-new art, which captures favorite characters, potions and spells, creatures, and situations from the first novel.
- The first person to make his or her opponent’s cards “disappear” wins.
- 118 total cards, including premium cards.
- The card game will be available sometime between July – September 2001.
- Expansion packs will be available in Winter 2001.

Game Levels
- Starter Level: learn basic games and strategy, includes two 40 card decks, each with an additional Wizard card, rulebook, and playmat.
- Theme Decks (Advanced Level): 61-card theme decks teach “deckbuilding” and introduct advance strategies, each theme deck includes damage counters and one premium Wizard card.
- Boosters (Expert Level): 11-card boosters introduce more new advanced strategies and adds new cards.
