‘Fantastic Beasts’ Textbook 2017 Edition Misprint

Select copies of the 2017 edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them are a paragraph shorter than they should be. Following Hypable‘s report of the misprint on March 18th, Scholastic acknowledged the error and promised a correct copy to anyone who received a book with the mistake.

The error can be found in many of the box-sets that include Quidditch Through the Ages and Tales of Beedle the Bard, and in a rare few copies of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sold separately. On pages 38 and 39 of the new edition, three lines about Hippogriffs were omitted. The first print run (10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 17 18 19 20 21) contains no error, and the Hippogriff paragraph continues onto page 39. The second print run (10 9 8 7 6 4 3 2 17 18 19 20 21) is missing three lines at the end of the Hippogriff section beginning with:

“The Hippogriff burrows for insects but will also eat birds and small mammals.”
