A celebration of legendary, five time Academy Award winning composer John Williams is set to occur this July as part of BBC Proms, to celebrate Williams’s 85th birthday. Unfortunately, Williams himself will not be in attendance due to no longer being able to fly long-haul.

His scores for Star Wars, Schindler’s List, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones, as well as Harry Potter, of course, are beloved by all.

The celebration will take place at 19:30pm on July 20th at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

An official description of the event is as follows:

“Keith Lockhart – a long-time colleague of Williams at the Boston Pops Orchestra – conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra in an evening featuring excerpts from the composer’s best-loved scores, as well as some lesser-known gems.”

Costumes are heavily encouraged by director David Pickard:

“Will people come dressed as Star Wars characters? I’d be really disappointed if they don’t”

BBC Proms is a collection of almost 90 concerts this summer, an annual event in its 123rd year. Read more about the event at the BBC here.

Tickets go on sale May 13th, at £9.50 to £50 per seat (plus booking fee). Find out more here.
