An eagle-eye spotted this bit of information about the origin of Mrs. Norris in the Boston Globe:
Society members also delight in citing popular culture references to their heroine. One pointed out a nod to [Jane] Austen in the best selling Harry Potter books by J. K. Rowling. The series describes a mean old cat by the name of “Mrs. Norris” that roams around the Hogwarts boarding school. The sly reference honors “Mansfield Park,” where Fanny Price’s unkind aunt carries the same name.
