Calling all Harry Potter fans! A Leicester primary school needs you to help put the magic into an activity week devoted to the fictional hero.

Parks Primary School, in New Parks, is seeking young volunteers to work with children on activities centred around JK Rowling’s first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

The week-long event, starting on July 2, is being organised by Leicester Education Action Zone and Rathbone Millennium Volunteers, a youth volunteering agency.

Volunteers will help pupils aged eight and nine explore the story of the apprentice wizard and produce artwork and a video magazine programme.

Rathbone’s coordinator Becky Cartwright said: “We need about 20 volunteers, aged between 16 and 24.

“They do not need particular skills or previous experience of working with children, as training will be provided for them.

“But it would be great to attract some volunteers with skills such as videoing, costume design, art, and music.”

Sue Brown, of Leicester Education Action Zone, said volunteers would develop useful skills in project planning, leadership, and working creatively with children.
