Here is a followup today regarding the story we told you about last December, where a plaque was to be placed outside the cafe where Jo wrote parts of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The Scotsman now has an article and photo of this plaque, which has been placed outside the old Nicholson’s cafe in Edinburgh. The plaque reads:
“JK Rowling wrote some of the early chapters of Harry Potter in the rooms on the first floor of this building.”
The plaque was installed as part of the Unesco City of Literature Trust, which celebrates Edinburgh as the City of Literature. Jo has remarked previously about the City of Literature concept, noting:
‘It’s impossible to live in Edinburgh without sensing its literary heritage everywhere. It seems eminently sensible to me to recognise this, along with the contemporary literary life here, with a permanent title that can inspire and inform other places around the world.’
