First Musings

It’s hard to imagine a time when Harry Potter didn’t exist. The books have sat in a neat row on the third shelf of my bookcase for as long as I can remember. I have files of transcriptions saved on both my PC and my laptop, and a couple of Harry Potter related clothing items I adore.

Almost two years ago I discovered something else that captured my attention. You see, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was not due for awhile and I was frequenting the bookstore and the library for something to read. My current interest at the time was vampires and urban fantasy. I was browsing Barnes & Noble one day and found a thick, black paperback book with a curious image of two hands cupping an apple on the front cover. It was on display on a small table in the Young Adult section. The book was a comforting weight in my hands and on the back was an excerpt from the book. The excerpt was alluring and attention grabbing. That day I left the store with a brand new copy of Twilight tucked under my arm. I finished the book and marched back to the store for New Moon, which had just been released a month or so previously. And then waited several very long months for Eclipse.

Along the way I managed to interest some of my Leaky friends into reading the books. It was great to be able to discuss two different fandoms with the same group of people. We have all made our plans for the Breaking Dawn release. Some of us are going to Terminus. Some of us are going to a midnight release at a >Borders store. But no matter what our plans, we are all going to get our hands on a copy of that book somehow and we are going to eagerly devour it like the rabid fans we are.

So what does Twilight have to do with a blog that is on a Harry Potter fansite? I’ve noticed that the two fandoms share a lot in common, so much so that sometimes I wonder where one fandom ends and the other begins. There’s no real answer to that. But if you’re looking for something to do with both worlds then you’ve come to the right place. I’m not going to use this blog to condemn one series or another; I’m simply going to use this blog to combine the two series. It is a place where I can talk about both of them and compare and contrast. Some of the material you will probably have heard before. Some you may not have. I only hope you read this blog with an open mind.
