I started with a wand. I think I’ve still got it somewhere around – pine, 11 1/2 inches, dryad hair core. After that, I made some more wands, and then I put together some Quidditch robes, and now I’m trying to make a broom.

I fell into Harry Potter in the 7th grade. I’d forgotten to pick a book for our next book report and heard a lot of other people saying “Harry Potter” and the teacher thought it was a great idea. I went along with it! I read the first book completely unaware that in 11 years I’d be reading it all over again and becoming enthralled with a world of magic and friendship.

I started with a masking tape-and-paint snitch, went on to a plastic-wrap invisibility cloak, a black cloth cloak, a scarf, many, many wands and eventually a broomstick.

I made costumes for anime cons for years, and decided I wanted quidditch robes for the Order of the Phoenix book release party. Didn’t finish them on time, but wore them to Goblet of Fire movie and Half Blood Prince book release.

These are the items I’ve crafted:
A wand for me and one for my daughter that we carried when we went to the midnight Deathly Hallows book party.
She dressed as Tonks. I dressed as Mrs Weasly.

An altered book of Tales of Beetle the Bard

A copy of the potions book from the Half Blood Prince movie.
The most amazing thing about this was I used an old chemistry text book from the 60’s
and on the first page of the first chapter it actually mentions “philosphers stone” and
“elixer of life”

2 room boxes (minature rooms) that will eventually be the Griffendor’s common room (still in progress)

A copy of Mrs. Weasly’s clock(still in progress)

And these are the things that I’m planning to make:

A bracelet watch with black stones that I’ll add charms to (witches hat, dragon, owl,
cat, big dog, and more) I’ve found charms on-line but I want to see if I can find them locally.

I’m also just now starting to plan to buy one of the large hinged boxes that look like a big book and
decorationg it to look like one of the HP books, to sit on my end table to hold the junk that
is now sitting there in a plain little box( scissors, nail clippers , small pliers, stray earrings, etc.)
This project will take hand-painting, decopage, and I don’t-know-what-else, ’til I get started.

And what I really, really want to make but need to plan more …a copy of the watch Ron and Harry
got for their birthdays. For this I might use a watch with a plain leather band and decorate the band with symbols,
or buy a couple of really cheap watches to experiment on —-taking them apart and
decorating the face, and the inside of the face cover ‘til I find the look I like…I guess
the watch doesn’t have to work, as long as it has the look I want.
