To me, Dumbledore died on July 02, 1995. Working on a Harry Potter fan site during the heyday of book releases meant that well meaning fans would send us spoilers before the book release. Two weeks before the release date, I received a book page in my in box, with the fate of the headmaster highlighted in a putrid green.I quickly closed the page and deleted the file. I sat back in my office chair, and reflected to myself the fate of this character. I'd taught literature...

Part of me wants to stamp my foot and complain that it's not fair. Part of me wants to squee OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!David Tennant is going to be at Comic-Con in July, the San Diego event's 40th anniversary. He and outgoing head writer Russell T. Davies are going to sit on a panel together, along with producer Julie Gardner and director Euros Lyn, Sunday, July 26.And John Barrowman will be there too, just in time (finally!) for Torchwood's special one-weeker called...

I’m busy. I’ve gotta go to work. I’ve got homework. Study, chores, work, work, work. We all know what it’s like. We always push ourselves to do more, more, more, wanting to please others and do what’s right. Running around, staying up late then waking up early and doing it all over again. Recently I’ve been very busy, due to a number of people and things that keep building up into one big pain in the horcrux. One day I’d just had enough. I didn’t want to do it anymore....

I've read more then my share of novels, and I've noticed trends in content that often times reflect the culture of our society. Entertainment Weekly (EW) published an online article, "Girls Gone Dark" where it sites what they see as a new trend in books. The trend, as they see it, is toward a darker content in teen literature. Wall Stree Journal also reported on the current trend towards darker content in teen novels. The EW article raises the question ..."Could this newer,...

For those of you who don’t know, I live with a Muggle who has a very Dursley-ish attitude towards magic (read Harry Potter) and toward everything that is not deeply rooted in practical reality. I guess you could say that opposites attact!! In any case, my beloved Muggle has often asked me what the point of crafting was. I guess he keeps asking because he just won’t accept my reasoning. To him, construction/renovation is perfectly OK (he owns a construction/renovation company). After...

First things first, blog - I know it's been forever. I've been having a hard time thinking up fresh stuff to say on here while Doctor Who is on holiday. I have to say, I love love LOVED Planet of the Dead. Fantastic! I don't want to spoil you if you haven't seen it yet, but it's on DVD now through Netflix and other sources, so go watch it. 'Kay? 'Kay. I thought I'd share with you one thing that's keeping me from going over to BBC Wales and actually kicking their butts for the lag time between...

Have you ever read a book and realized that you walked away with more then a story? Have you ever sat contemplating a choice and wondered what your favorite literary character would do in that situation? If you have, then you'll understand the purpose of The Harry Potter Alliance's "What Would Dumbledore Do" campaign. (go write your blog now LOL )As a teacher, I know that we strive to help students make text to real world connections, so when Andrew Slack ...

When Brokeback Mountain first graced the big screen, I read a review of the movie that described the initial attraction between Ennis and Jack as inevitable. Two young attractive men, alone for the season on a secluded mountain? Yeah, I’d believe it inevitable. So what about two young teen wizards holed up in boarding school for six years? Well, I can see that too. And, apparently, so can a lot of other people. It’s Frodo and Sam all over again. The...

This weekend I experienced the love that was LeakyCon 2009. There were so many wonderful presentations to attend, friends to meet for the first time, friends to see again that it was too big for just a few days. LeakyCon was truly the Con made of awesome. I saw so many awesome presentations, but I can only mention a few of them here. While I really looked forward to DavidEnglish's presentation, the room was full so I had to sit in the hallway and listen with the...

Being crafty is sometimes born of inspiration…and sometimes born within ourselves from something we don’t even understand. And sometimes, it’s just in our blood. Lemme share something really personal with y’all, okay… Maybe it’s the fact that in the US, we just celebrated Memorial Day weekend…but for me, it’s the same every year. I don’t generally gather with people and do the whole barbeque thing… I mean, sometimes my mum and I will cook out...

So I'm having a pretty horrible day. It started off wrong and just keeps getting worse.A normal human would suffer all day long, plodding through with high hopes while things just kept pulling them down the drain until they reached the sludge at the bottom. Not me, though, for I am CRAFTER!I shall grab my trusty needles and yarn. I shall bask in the sound of aluminum needles clanking together while my yarn works as a Catcher of All Things Evil. Nothing bad can touch me,...

Like almost every other Harry Potter fan out there, I would give anything to be able to sit down with J.K. Rowling and just pick her brain and ask her a million questions. There are many things that happen in the series that I don’t fully understand why they happened. After finishing the series out, I realized most of them, but there are a few that I am left to think about. We see many things that have to happen for a reason. Harry had to stay...

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, one of the definitions of frustration is "a deep chronic sense or state of insecurity and dissatisfaction arising from unresolved problems or unfulfilled needs."Yep, I would say that would do it. I'd say this because this morning, frustration tried to be my new bff. An event at work, eventually resolved, tried to take 'frustration' to new levels when five months of entries in a program disappeared. In the end, I won and things were restored...

*rereads and makes a note to watch Mamma Mia a bit less*But it was as that is the day hubby (Sir Dragon Preacher) and I were married. For the past few months, I had come up with the idea of doing an afghan for him with runes on it. Of course this never got past the idea stages as there was always a reason I didn't sit down to graph it out. Until last weekend.May 1st...What.A.Night! Me? Watching Mamma Mia too much? Nah, what makes you say that. Now where were...

Don't you wish you could fly? I often watch Sorcerer's Stone, with Harry's first ride on a broom, wishing I could have just one ride. Unfortunately, that brand of magic is something I can't make happen. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that obesity rates in our children have tripled since 1980. As a teacher, I wonder what kind of magic can help us solve this problem. If Madam Hooch was our P.E. Coach, what would she do?First, this problem is more complex then...
