Motivation Conction

Most motivational experts agree that if you want your goals to actually work and happen, there are certain things you can do:

  • size="3">Endeavor to take S.M.A.R.T. goals, which means goals that are:

size="3">Ø size="3">S ’ Specific ("I will knit a PoA style scarf")

size="3">Ø size="3">M ’ Measurable ("I will finish sewing 1 Harry Potter costume")

size="3">Ø size="3">A ’ Achievable (As much as you'd like to kid yourself you can do it, you probably won't crochet 50 blankets or Mollys in a year, unless your name is former Crafty Witch Amber or Mary, so settle on a number that will challenge you, yet is still doable)

size="3">Ø size="3">R ’ Realistic (see the previous note)

size="3">Ø size="3">T ’ Time-based (Do you plan on reaching your goal in the next month? Before the summer? Before the ball drops on Time Square in 2012? Set an expiry date for this!)

size="3">· size="3">Share your goals with your friends, your family, or, in this case, the internet. You'll place a small positive pressure on your shoulders that will push you to make things happen.

size="3">· size="3">Write down your goals, and stick them in a place where you can see them. I have printed all my 2011 resolutions on white cardstock, mounted them on colored cardstock (it had to be cute) and stuck them inside the vanity door in my bathroom. I brush my teeth and wash my face twice a day, so while I do that I reread my goals.

size="3">· size="3">Create a treasure map. Experts say to find pictures of the things you want to achieve in your life, then cut them out and stick them on a piece of cardboard you will then keep somewhere you're likely to see it often. Or, if you want a craftier version (and don't mind devoting a few hours to such a project!), you can always create a version similar to size="3" face="Times New Roman">mine size="3">.
