Note
For the “House” colors, if you find the Wool Ease colors not to your liking, just substitute with a different yarn as long as it is wool of the same weight and results in the same stitch and row gauge. The authors at wizardknits.com found the following colors to be acceptable but not entirely accurate.

18.0 sts per 4” (10cm) by 24.0 rows per 4” (10cm).

Instructions
Note
Read ALL these instructions thoroughly BEFORE starting to knit. There may be sections where there are two areas are shaped at the same time (such as necklines or waist shaping).
Back
Cast on 63 sts on size 6 (4 mm) needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 1.8” (4.6 cm).
Change to size 8 (5 mm) needles and stockinette stitch. Knit 1 or 2 rows in the main color then knit a 1/1/1 stripe. At this gauge, and particularly on a Child's size vest, a 1/1/1 stripe sequence is 0.66” wide. A wider stripe [such as a 1/2/1 row sequence] would be out of proportion but the choice is up to the knitter.
Continue in main color and work even until piece measures 7.3” or 18.5 cm (44 rows), excluding hem.
Armhole Shaping
Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of every alternate row for 2 rows until 55 sts remain. Continue until armhole measures 6.0” or 15.2 cm (36 rows), with 55 sts remaining.
Neck Shaping
Work both side at the same time. Work 16 sts. Slip the next 23 sts to a holder. With a second ball of yarn, work the remaining 16 sts. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row twice, until 14 sts remain.
At the same time, when armhole measures 6.0” or 15.2 cm (row 36), start shoulder shaping.
Shoulder Shaping
Cast off 7 stitches at armhole edge twice.
Front
Decrease for armhole at both ends, as for back. Continue until armhole measures 1.7” or 4.3 cm (10 rows), with 55 sts remaining.
Divide for neck. Work both sides at the same time. Work 27 sts. With a second ball of yarn, cast off next 1 sts and work remaining 27 sts.
Neck Shaping
Decrease 1 st at neck edge of next row, then every 2nd row 12 times, until 14 sts remain.
Work even until armhole measures 6.0” or 15.2 cm (36 rows).
Shoulder Shaping
Cast off as for back.
Sleeves
Cast on 34 sts on size 6 (4 mm) needles. Work in K1P1 ribbing for 1.3” (5.8 cm). Inc 3 sts evenly across the row to 37 sts total.
Change to size 8 (5 mm) needles and stockinette stitch. Knit 1 or 2 rows in main colors and then add a stripe pattern for the new style sweater. There are no sleeve stripes on the original sweater. Continue in main color.
Inc 1 st at each end of every 9th row 3 times, then every 10th row twice to 47 sts (47 rows total, excluding hem).
Work even until sleeve measures 9.2” or 23.4 cm (56 rows), excluding hem.
Cap Shaping
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next two rows (41 sts remain). Dec 1 st at each end of every row once, then dec 1 st at each end of every 2nd row 12 times, then dec 1 st at each end of every row once. Cast off remaining 13 sts loosely.
Shoulder Seams
Sew fronts to back along shoulder seams.
V Front Neck Single Band Collar
Change to size 4 (3.5 mm) needles. Neckband is worked in 2 pieces.
With right side of work facing, pick up and work (starting at bottom of front neck) 25 sts from right front neck edge, 2 sts from right back neck edge and 11 sts from back neck holder to center. Total 38 sts.
Work 0.8” or 2.0 cm (6 rows) in K1P1 ribbing. For the original style, center a 1/1/1 row stripe on the neckband.
Cast off loosely.
Work the left side the same way as the right, picking up the back neck stitches first.
Finishing
Sew sleeve top to armhole, easing to fit. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew any remaining seams.
Darn/weave/sew in all loose ends.
