Harry Potter Themed Decor Contest

September’s contest will focus on Harry Potter themed decor. We invite you to submit a photograph of a room or area in your home, school dormitory, or office which you’ve decorated in a Harry Potter style. A previously decorated area may be used, or you may design something new for the contest. Your decor may involve Harry Potter materials and accessories, or you may simply create a room/area which is reminiscent of a setting in the books. Perhaps you would like to create a room or area which honours a particular character or theme from the books. We encourage you to give your imagination free rein! Commercially licensed Potter items may be used, but are not necessary. We hope to see some imaginative decorating materials which have been crafted by fans. (If your entry includes anything created by another fan, please credit that person when you submit your entry.) This contest will run a little longer than usual, in case some contestants need extra time to decorate (or clean house). Entries will be accepted until 12 October.

Official Rules:
The contest is open to anyone 13 years old or or older who is not involved in the judging process.
There is a limit of one entry per person.
Submit up to four photographs showing a room or area where you personally live or work, and which you have decorated in a Harry Potter style. Please note that photos of Halloween decorations or Potter book-launch party decorations are not appropriate for this contest.
The area you decorate must be a real living or working area. Your collection of Potter books and memorabilia arranged on the kitchen table just long enough to take a photograph is not what we are looking for in this contest.
All entries must meet PG-13 standards of decency and good taste (details can be found in our FAQ).
Photographs may be from digital cameras or scanned “paper” photos, but they must be submitted by email, in .jpg, .png, or .gif format. Paper photos are to be 4″ x 6″ or 6″ x 4″ and digital photos of approximately the same length and width (e.g. 1200 x 1800 or 1800 x 1200 pixels for 300 pixels/inch). File sizes no larger than 1 MB, please.
Please include a short explanation of your photo. (For example: “This is the area around my bed and desk in the university dorm room I share with two friends. My uncle helped me make the batik wall hanging, and my friend Hedwig made the quilt.”)
Please indicate the name you want us to announce if you win (first name only, full name, or Leaky Lounge screen name).
Email entries to [email protected] no later than 11:59 pm EST on 12 October 2008, with “HP Decor” in the subject line.
Winners will be chosen for first, second, and third place.
Please refer to our FAQ if you are not sure of something.
If you have any questions not answered on the FAQ, or would like to discuss this Contest, please come to the Contest Corner Forum of The Leaky Lounge.

Update:

Congratulations to our winners!

First Place: Carmen Ruybe

This room is decked out like the Gryffindor common room.

The
fireplace is my most prized item. My friends Dennis and Betty Gronseth
and Rich Forgey, my son Derick Jackson, my sister Vicki and my husband
Joe helped a lot. Look closely and you will see replicas made by
Michele Klau, Ealaveandor, and HPMagician. Some of the other items in
the pictures were made by Jennifer K. Clark and Castle.elf. I have been
collecting HP for 5 yrs now and have a whole room full of figures and
trinkets. Some of the Hogwart’s books in the pictures were made by
Order_thru the Phoenix as well. There is a wall with the “Lady and the
Unicorn” covering like the Gryffindor common room. The wall hanging was
made by Michele Klau. There is a great picture of my windows with the
arches in my homemade Gryffindor common room. When I come home this is
the first place I come everyday. This room started off being the family
reading room. My youngest son likes to read in his room now. Even
though the trunk has the Hogwarts emblem upside down I still keep it in
my room.

Second Place: Amy Warren

This
is my newly decorated 8 year old son’s room. The pillows, bed hangings,
and curtains were sewn by me. the walls are “scene setters dungeon wall.

Third Place: Ruth Pendzich

These
are pictures of my Guest Room which I have decorated with a lot of my
HP collectibles and handmade replicas. Most of the non-commercial Harry
Potter-related items are made by me, (with the exception of the
Knockturn Alley sign and the Slytherin Locket), as this is one of my
hobbies. I know these collage pictures are a bit busy, but I have so
much stuff jammed in this room, it’s hard to show it all. I also have
two other rooms in my home decorated with an HP theme.
