Actor David Tennant has been nominated in the annual Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards. The actor, who memorably portrayed Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and is currently starring in the popular Doctor Who series, is nominated in the Screen category. These awards are held to celebrate the diversity of talent in Scotland and “recognise the achievements and mark on Scottish culture made by individuals over the course of a year.” Readers will remember that author J.K. Rowling was a past winner in 2001. Others nominated this year in the Screen category include actress Tilda Swinton (“Chronicles of Narnia”, “Michael Clayton“), actor James McAvoy (The Last King of Scotland, “Becoming Jane“), and independent director David Mackenzie (Hallam Foe starring Jamie Bell, Young Adam). On a related note, David Tennant will be appearing with the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company next year in a production of “Hamlet.” David will take on the title role, with Patrick Stewart also starring as Claudius. Tickets for this sure to be excellent production will go on sale Monday.
