Last week we heard from author Ian Rankin who gave an update of sorts regarding the long awaited Scottish book or Harry Potter encyclopedia from J.K. Rowling. As noted before, Mr. Rankin said the last time he saw his neighbor and friend, Jo was "was working on her Harry Potter encyclopedia" and "drawing family trees for all the characters, going back generations." Today, the Sunday Mail has more from the attorney for J.K. Rowling who cautions the book is not due for release in the near future. Neil Blair is quoted as saying: "The encyclopaedia simply remains something Ms Rowling would like to complete sometime in the future."
However the tabloid goes on to interview an unnamed "insider" who reportedly said: "Everyone hopes it comes to fruition. "Even though the original Harry fans are now adults the obsession remains and this would be a huge seller."Obviously she is under no pressure and can pick and choose her projects but Harry is more than just another character for her."
The piece then says that in terms of a release for the Scottish book "The timing of the books will be important as the final two Harry Potter films are due out in 2010 and 2011."
hm, maybe it s really something i d love to have after the second film- the Last Masterpiece to enjoy in-as she likes special dates-2012, at the “Closure” of the Mayan Calendar??
NEARFUTERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i want it soon! i can’t live without harry potter for long periods of time. maybe after the second part of DH would be a good time.
The less pressure that is put on Jo over " the Scottish Book" the better it will be for us. It is not the sort of project to be crafted to a deadline and it will sell regardless of when it is finally printed.
2012 is way too soon for the book to be out- i don’t know much about putting out books, but i can promise you that is way too fast given how large this book, if done right, will be, how much information, how much editing, etc. is going to go into it. i imagine it will take her several years to just gather all the information and decide what she what’s to include and how to arrange it, and then it will take a good long while in editing as well. i wouldn’t anticipate the release of it, at least not the way I envision in of the quality with the type and amount of information i want until 2020. i could see it coming out on some anniversary of a harry potter book, whether it be when she finished the first or when the last was published… but by the release of the seventh movies? no way.
i want this book so badly, but i’m willing to wait :) i reckon Jo’s going to make it really detailed so i’m in rush, i’m sure it’ll be AMAZING when it is released :)
hmmm… well i do hope it’s sometime in the NEAR future. but i’ll wait 20 years if that’s when jo decides to put it out. :)
