Literally or figuratively. You be the decider.

For some reason vampire literature has become popular, more so with Twilight. So it seems almost like for a series to be popular, it has to have a good vampire storyline as a part of it, right?

WRONG! (you knew I was going to say that!)

Harry Potter was before the age of the vampire so to speak. We hear very little mention of vampires and know very little about them. Now, the market is exploding with vampire fiction. How do you weed out the good from the bad?

First of, it depends on if you’re a young adult reader or adult reader. If I read vampire books, it’s the kind that’s marketed to adults. I have read some teen vampire fiction but generally teens are more attracted to magic and epic fantasies, even with Twilight giving vampires a better name and more interest. Among the vampire books, here are the ones I really enjoy:

Dark Days series by Jocelynn Drake
Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost

(These series are RATED R for sex and violence!!! If you’re under 18, please please please please PLEASE ask a parent/guardian before reading the series!)

Those are the two series having to do with vampires that I enjoy the most, simply because there is more than just ‘intensely good looking, irresistable, all powerful and all knowing vampire’ storyline going on- there is an actual plot, actual problems, and actual solutions. Granted, it’s not about your average, normal, every-day person. These characters have special abilities and talents. But that’s why it’s called urban FANTASY- because of the possibilities and alternative opportunities it offers us.
