Richard Harris is inadvertently causing headaches for staff at his London billet atop the luxury Savoy Hotel. Dickie, 70, has been overpowered with fan mail since starting his role of Professor Dumbledore in the forthcoming Harry Potter film.

The Limerick-born star has been inundated with requests for places at Harry’s fictional school for wizards. “I am swamped every week. And I mean swamped,” says Harris. “The film isn’t over and already I am getting something like 3,000 letters a week!

“I can’t get over how they found me. All the mail arrives just addressed to Richard Harris, Dumbledore. I guess it must be wizardry – or the owls dropping them off in the middle of the night.” Steady Rich – it’s only make believe after all.
