Crossing the language barrier, the Brazilian Harry Potter fan site “Harry Potter o Filme” emailed us this article from the Brazilian Magazine VEJA. It started out in Portuguese but was translated by “Harry Potter o Filme” Webmaster G.V.Linares – we’ve edited his version a bit:

The Brazilian Friend of Harry Potter
Fernando Cavalcanti/Ag. Atimo

“He doesn’t even know how many times he’s read the original Harry Potter books in English. But Alfred Lewis Enoch, a young, 12 year old actor who’s taking part in the movie based on the story of the little sorceror, also loves a good Brazilian comic book.

Son of an Afro-Brazilian doctor from Rio de Janeiro who’s married to an English “white-like-milk” actor, Alfie, (as he’s called), was born in London and studies in an English school – though he’s already spending lots of time in Salvador.

“I miss acarajé with pepper”, he says. Discovered when he was doing his first play, Alfie will play the part of Dean Thomas in the movie, a friend and roommate of Harry Potter. He only has two places in the movie where he speaks but appears with Harry and his gang throughout much of the movie.

You may remember we did an earlier post in April about Alfie and the famous English side of his family as well as his involvement in London theatre. Acarajé, by the way, is a Brazilian dish of bean fritters with shrimp, onion and Cayenne pepper.
