NBC News will devote an hour of “Dateline” to covering the making of the Warner Bros. movie and related topics, Sunday at 7 pm EST.

Katie Couric, who reports the special, visited the London set of “Harry Potter” over the summer. Parts of the program were taped over several months, and include interviews with the cast and director. All footage in the special was shot by NBC, with the exception of segments from the film itself. NBC News Vice President Corvo couldn’t recall a time when NBC had done a similar news show. “This is an hour, a great hour, that families will enjoy,” he said. “It holds together as an independent program.”
