CNSNews reports on the continuing attempt to ban certain children’s books — including “The Witch of Blackbird Pond” and “Harry Potter” — from a Cromwell, Conn. middle school.

A letter to the editor in response to the same issue had this to say: “‘Books Being Targeted’, regarding two women’s objections to books used by Cromwell schools, reflects a problem common to the issue of challenged books. It would seem that those who have the objections rarely read the books, preferring to fixate on perceived content …”

Children of Redlands School were in for a magical time at their summer fair when a famous special guest paid a visit. Tom Felton, who plays Draco Malfoy in the blockbuster film Harry Potter was invited to help the day go with a bang. Excited youngsters were able to meet the homegrown talent, who lives in Surrey, after he had opened the event and all agreed he behaved like a true star, graciously signing autographs and having his photo taken with the pupils. The Herald Sun reports that a 4-year-old girl was in critical condition after investigators say she tried to imitate the flying action she saw in the Harry Potter movie. Samantha Knudson watched “The Sorcerer’s Stone” on Tuesday night, then crawled onto a kitchen counter, straddled a broom and jumped off, authorities said.
