CastWatch: Potter Actors on Stage, in Films

Since principal filming for Goblet of Fire has finished, many of the actors from the Potter films are busy with other projects. Here is a roundup of some of the things they are involved with.
Ralph Fiennes (Lord Voldemort in Goblet): The acclaimed actor returns to the theatre in England, starring in the production of Julius Caesar in the role of Marc Antony. Joining Ralph Fiennes onstage will be fellow Potter actress Fiona Shaw (Aunt Petunia) who will potray Portia. There are several newspaper articles about this play, including this play diary written by Fiona Shaw. The Guardian has this piece about Shakespeare that has some new photos of the actors in rehearsal for the play. Julius Caesar runs through May 14th at the Barbican Theatre in London, England. Also, Mr. Fiennes is reportedly set to return Broadway here in the US in a performance of Faith Healer set to open in April, 2006.

Update 4/19: Ralph Fiennes is now set to be a new film called “Who Killed Norma Barnes”, which is based on Dostoyevsky’s “The Idiot.” Along with Goblet, two other films that Ralph Fiennes will be appearing in are due to screen at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The Independent reports that “Chromophobia” which also stars Penelope Cruz, and “The Constant Gardener” adapted from the John LeCarre novel, will be shown at the film festival starting on May 11th.

Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore): Sir Michael Gambon will also be seen on the British stage as he is starring in a new production of Shakespeare’s Henry IV, playing the role of Falstaff. He will be joined on stage by fellow Potter actor David Bradley (Argus Filch). This play officially opens May 4th at the National Theatre in London, England.

Alan Rickman (Professor Snape): Alan Rickman is currently directing a play called My Name is Rachel Corrie, which is being staged at the Royal Court Theatre in London. The play runs through April 30th. He is also filming a new motion picture called “Snowcake” in Canada. MuggleNet recently posted some pictures of a fan encounter at the filming of this movie. Mr. Rickman will also be the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android, played by fellow Potter actor Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), in the Hitchhiker movie which opens April 29th.

David Thewlis (Professor Lupin): David will be appearing in Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated film “Kingdom of Heaven” which opens May 6th. The official site for the film, which stars Orlando Bloom, has been updated including a new bio of David Thewlis. There are also clips of David speaking about this new movie. Be sure to check out the special extended trailer(spoilers!) for the film as well, where you can see David performing in several scenes. Brendan Gleeson (Mad-Eye Moody in Goblet) also appears in the film in the role of Reynald. Yahoo Movies also has some additional clips from the soon to be released film. David Thewlis will also be seen in the motion picture “The New World” due to be released in November 2005.

Update 4/19: It was reported today that David Thewlis will be in a new motion picture with Sharon Stone called “Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction.” David will be playing a police officer.

Gary Oldman (Sirius Black): Gary will be appearing in the new movie “Batman Begins” in the role of Lt. Gordon. The MovieBox.Net has an extensive collection of trailers and tv spots for the film; Gary can be seen in TV spot #4.

Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy): Jason recently took part in a celebrity golf tournament, and The Unofficial Jason Isaacs Page has posted a wrap up of the event, with some new pictures of Jason on and off the golf course. Fore! 🙂 Jason is also set to begin work on a film with Hugh Jackman called “Good”, based on the play by CP Taylor.
