I still don’t get why couldn’t they publish the books and sell them as ordinary books that you can buy from a bookstore.Or J.K wants more money??Although i think if they would have published them they wouldn’t get less than 4 million dollars…imagine if the book costed $20, and a million people would buy it, that would be 20 million dollars…

M. B. Twain

“The Tale of The Three Brothers” begins on page 141, and actually has a picture of circle, triangle, and line in between between, and is drawn on the middle of three skulls at the top?? of that page.

A “BARD” (The Bard) is a famous poet.

Beedle is probably??? not one of the characters in any of the stories. However: My guess is that since JK Rowling is known to have Loved THE BEATLES . . . . Hmmmm. Any ideas, Sue?

Are we every going to be able to read these stories for ourselves? Does anyone know when the book is being published?

Brat, and others, regarding whether the stories will be published or not:

There has been no official statement from JKR about whether or not the stories will become available in a mass edition. All we know is that the seven copies she wrote cannot be used as the manuscript from which a mass edition can be made, she has retained the copyrights.

If you look through past discussions deveoted to the Tales of Beedle the Bard, there are essentially three positions.

The first represents the postings of a few who have seen the announcement and auctioning of the Tales as some kind of slap in the face to “real fans”, or as representing some kind of “greed” on the part of JKR and others. This clearly is a minority position.

The second position argues that the Tales will not be published because the handwritten copies are in themselves unique and therefore a mass edition would reduce their value.

The third group of opinions beleives that we’ll get to read the tales “sooner or later, in some format”. Suggestions have ranged from an online release through JKR’s website (possibly as a holiday gift to all), to inclusion in the encylcopedia JKR is preparing, to a stand alone small book similar to Quidditch through the Ages or Fantastic Beasts. and naturally any proceeds will go to charity.

We’ll just need to wait and see…no one knows for sure. I’d add that positions shift slightly, become more nuanced, with each new announcement regarding the Tales…its been an interesting discussion, as different fans interpret what we know of JKR, of publishing, the past patterns of behavor from all involved in bringing us HP, and so on…

As for Beedle, all we know from DH is that he lived a long long time ago….

Professor Potter

Its amazing to think that these collection of wizard fairytale stories would have been critically acclaimed and may have won awards but for the fact that these stories are not published and are written for private purposes. So JK will never receive such awards and acclaim. What wonderful fairy tales. Without any doubt, JK has a godly gift of storytelling with tremendous morals in her plots. My favourite story so far has to be the Fountain. I also enjoy the way the reviewer describes JK’s handwriting changing with the intensity of the narrative. Potterfans, surely this is the best xmas gift we could ask for short of holding a copy of Beedle the Bard?

M Jones

Pathetic -Herminny feels “blessed” that she is told “second hand” about a book that the fans should have first hand !

This sort of grovelling invites and provokes Rowling and her corporate pals to treat us like dirt.

and as you can see, M Jones fits into category one as described in my earlier message…

Prof. Potter, we’ll just need to wait and see, huh? It comes down to that. Agree with you, the Fountain of Fair Fortune sounds the best. Any thoughts about whether the Tales will or won’t be published (and, why or why not)?

cheers

Linny

Hold on – is that last one going to be the Elder Wand story?

I can see why she would put that one in, but it’s so nice to hear about these stories, I’d much prefer to read another new one!
