Rearranging or shortening the plot

Quidditch Matches: The Hufflepuff/Gryffindor match was left out of the movie.

Snape and Quirrell’s Run-in: In the book, Snape and Quirrell meet in the Forbidden Forest directly after the Quidditch match, but in the movie they meet in a corridor during the Christmas holiday.

Missing or Misplaced Characters:

Piers Polkiss: When Dudley goes to the zoo with Harry, his friend Piers is also with them in the book, in the movie he is left out of the plot.

Charlie Weasley: In the book Charlie takes Norbert from Hagrid, yet in the movie Dumbledore takes him.

Neville Longbottom: Neville has to serve detention with Ron and Hermione in the Forbidden Forrest, yet in the movie he is not there.

Argus Filch: When Harry, Ron, Neville and Hermione are returning from Hagrid’s Hut in the book, they are caught by Filch and given detention. In the movie, McGonagall catches the trio and Draco who has been following them.
