Breaking Dawn

Today’s Breaking Dawn Quote of the Day is:

Rosalie: “Over my pile of ashes.”

I really hope Rosalie was just kidding.

Several days ago was the one year anniversary of the Deathly Hallows release. I remember waiting in line for hours upon hours and rushing home to devour the final book in an epic tale of sorts. It was a satisfying end to a long journey for author, fans, and the characters themselves. What Harry and company are doing now is really a mystery to us. And I am content with knowing what the epilogue told us. There’s enough in there to assure me that Harry and his friends are finally leading a life without fear or manipulation. and their children are growing up in a world that is as safe as it can be without the Dark Lord.

In eight days I will be indulging myself in the conclusion of the Twilight series in the highly anticipated Breaking Dawn. I don’t see the same sort of content lifestyle for Edward and Bella as I desired for Harry. I see Edward and Bella in love and together. I can’t say I think Bella will turn into a vampire, or that she will stay human, because in my mind the love that she and Edward share goes beyond the limitations of the physical body.

The sort of friendships and relationships that are portrayed in both Harry Potter and ,i>Twilight are the kinds of relationships that don’t come around very often. The kind of bond that goes so deep that you know instinctively when your best friend is upset and just putting on a smile. The kind where you have a fight with your parents and you leave the house, and your brother knows exactly where to find you. So much can be portrayed through words and someone else’s imagination. These books give life and meaning to those sorts of idealized relationships we all long for and that is probably one of the reasons why reading is such a gratifying experience. I’m very grateful to J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer for creating such unique stories and sharing them.

It’s the end of another journey. But it’s not really over. There’s still enough to talk about, and to compare, and to argue over. with Breaking Dawn comes the end of the official text, but not the end of fandom. Harry Potter is complete, yet we are all still here discussing and reminiscing.

Let’s change gears for a second. Today was the start of the long anticipated Comic-Con. Twilight kicked it off to a great start with news from some of the actors and director and Stephenie Meyer. Check out this MTV article for all of the news. Stephenie Meyer’s website was also updated with news that a juicy Breaking Dawn tidbit will be revealed over at MTV on Monday, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Also, our awesome hosts Melissa and Sue will be at Comic-Con this sunday at 10:30 a.m. Go see them! They’ll be talking Potter! Twilight and Potter all in one event…

Please remember that Leaky’s spoiler policy is in place for the upcoming Twilight book. It would be a shame to be spoiled because we are so close to the release of Breaking Dawn.
