Musings of a Mad Mod

OK so I am having writer’s block on this blog. I wanted to write something
funny, but at the moment the topic I had in mind to share with you is not giving
me much inspiration for funny content. And if you have read the Quibbler,
you might have noticed I quite like doing funny content. So I think I will
not discuss the artwork of the Quibbler this week, but save that for another
week and instead give you all an insight into some of the sillyness that I am
prone to getting up to in leaky staff.

Why is this relevant? Well – I am a lonely Potter Geek at the bottom of Africa
and this is where I interact with the other Potterholics. As humor
is a great part of my life, I am always looking to inject it into anything I do.
To be honest, for a long time my IRL work was of such a nature where there wasnt
much to laugh about and the only way I could stay sane was to well… go nuts.
Its a bit backward I know, but hey – at least I’m happy/nuts and not climbing to
the top of a building and sniping random people with a bolt action rifle.

Mods hate Mondays. We really do. Actually we never refer to it as
“Monday” but rather “Bobday” as that was it’s original name before it turned to
evil and decided to torment mods and office workers alike. Every Bobday we
post what our schedule is going to be like for the rest of the week, and if we
forget to post we have to hand over all our chocolate to Moose_Starr who
instated the law (Called Moose’s First Law) way back when.

Last week however there was a twist: I declared the week “Blame it on Rudi
week” which works on this principle: Things happen that often you can’t
blame anyone for and therefore cannot gripe at them about it and get it out of
your system. To help sort that problem out someone is nominated to take
the blame for anyhting that goes wrong that week and people can then complain
and move on.

Now I do this with a twist: not only do people get to blame me for everything,
but I generally will post gleefully acknowledging its my fault and why I did it.
So for example I was accused of causing ice damage in the roof of a mod’s house
and had to fess up to eating copious ammounts of sno-cones in their attic and
dropping a few.

Memo to me: Next time let’s try chocolate ice cream: it’ll stain AND smell funky
in the middle of summer…

Upon being asked what song was top of the charts when I was born my reply was:

“The hit when I was born was ‘Two Rocks Being Hit Together’ by Ugh and
Zog. It stayed at the top of the charts until they released ‘Two Neanderthals Hitting a Dead
Mammoth With Rocks’
– They realised that Music With Rocks In It was the
going thing and therefore didn’t tamper with the formula too much. The group
split up shortly after this when Zog left to start a solo career due to artistic
differences, pioneering Rock and Avalanche when throwing his classic
un-amplified rock over a cliff in a moment of pique when told his first solo ‘Pretending
to Hit Ugh With a Rock’
was not the smash success he was expecting.”

The most fun I ever had though was with the Leaky Lounge’s birthday event where
I portrayed Fred Weasley in the Corner Booth Chat along with a fellow mod who
played George – and is now officially my twin who just happens to have a
different birthday and a different set of parents. We had the atendees in
stitches making comments about the Dursleys, (Vernon in particular) basically
calling him a ‘Git’ but then going on a tangent using the word ‘git’ in as many
sentences as possible when referring to him and in general derailing the
discussion as much as possible. We heard afterwards that one moderator for
the chat (luuckily there were about three) had been so quiet for a large
percentage of the chat because she had been too busy laughing at our antics to
type anything.

The long and short of it is this: When you get involved in the fandom in
any shape or fashion, you will have fun. These are fun people to work with
and fun people to know. Sure, you will have personality conflicts from
time to time, but by and large, Potter fans are the coolest bunch of people I
could ever hope to meet.

In fact I hope to meet amny of them at LeakyCon next May!!
