In a new interview on MTV.com Stephenie Meyer, the author of the popular “Twilight” novels, discusses Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling along with the similarities she finds between the “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” series. While Mrs. Meyer notes she has not yet had the opportunity to meet her fellow author, she does say she “would love to sit down and talk with her.” She continues, noting the fact that while both series are hugely popular among younger readers, comparing one series to the other is something she finds difficult to do. She states:
“The interesting thing about the comparison is that I think you can compare my fans to her fans more easily [than me to her]. I do think that we both have people who are just really really enthusiastic, and will come miles to see you and be involved, and everybody really cares about our characters. But the [’Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’] stories are just so different.”
“J.K. Rowling’s audience is everybody, so that means we all have a piece of her audience,” Meyer laughed. “It’s terribly flattering to be compared to her, but there’s never going to be another J.K. Rowling; that’s a phenomenon that’s not gonna happen again.”
Finally, Mrs. Meyer goes on to talk more on topics she would like to speak with J. K. Rowling about if given the opportunity, including Jo’s thoughts of the Harry Potter films, her fans, and her experience of being a popular writer. As readers will remember, actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) has been cast as leading man Edward Cullen in the upcoming “Twilight” film. All three previously released novels in the “Twilight” series are available for purchase in our Cauldron Shop.
Twilight is good but It can’t never be what harry potter is. And, unlike HP, it is a much simplier story, which is getting worse, she should stop writing the story before it gets even worse. She shouldn’t have written the last one… it was really disappointing; she had a great story, a great character, but she doesn’t know how to develope the story in a good way… that’s my opinion though, everyone can think what they want…..
The first book was allrigh, the second not bad, and the third one was.. just crap… she spoils every good thing the serie had…
Edward is such a great character, and in other hands it could have been a great novel, but she doesn’t know how to write and how to continue the story.
I recommend you another book series, “memorias de idhun” (I don’t know if they are translated into english or just in spanish, but they are way better than the twilight serie, although (of course) not as good as harry potter
Aw man i’m such a big twilight fan. Now that HP is over and all the hype is over I think Twilight is nearly better. Its definatley more mature anyway. For older readers i think. JK Rowling could never go into detail with the mature stuff because kids where still reading her books but Twilight was never meant for kids, its for young adults and older teens. Anyway I litterally can’t put Twilight down once i start reading, even more then HP. Totally weird. I never thought i’d find something i liked more the HP, but i have! YAY! My Harry Potter obsessesion is over and my Twilight obsession begins haha.
It is apparent that those who have been commenting, as well as not been commenting, have different opinions of Meyer’s novel. Every one is welcome to express their own opinion, but I feel as though a lot of you who are rejecting the novel are looking at it in the wrong way.
There is no way, whatsoever, that Twilight will ever replace Harry Potter and no way that it can be compared to Harry Potter; that much is fact. As mentioned before - sorry I can’t remember who said it - the only thing the two series have in common are fans.
I’m sorry, but a lot of us ARE teenage girls, and there is nothing wrong with liking cheesy romance. After all, cheesy romance is often the best.
Everyone is, of course, free to express their own thoughts regarding the novel, but I feel that some of you could be a little more respectful. After all, some of us on here actually enjoy Meyer’s novels and I remind you that they are still the fruit of her labor.
no Evens, cheesy romance is often stupid, contrived, whiny and ridicoulus, and twilight is all of that. Sorry, but it really is a bad Mary-sue fanfiction about a girl all the hot guys want. I am surprised so many girls my age like a book that stupid. but afterl all America is the country were in high school what really matters is how popular you are. I don’t mean to sound racist but you can’t deny that’s the way things go in that country.
For the people that are sooo in love with the HP series that they have to diss the Twilight series obviously dont have any reading experience outside of Harry Potter. im not saying that i hate HP, I actually love the books and have every one. But a true book fan would not deliberatly talk crappy about a great book because it rivals another. for me the twilight series is stacked up right next to the hp series on my book shelf…along with so many other epic books…
Besides Harry Potter can’t compare to Twilight the way it compares to LOTR anyways-they’re too different
BTW there are at least 3 more books coming out in the Twilight series
I only know 2: Breaking Dawn and Midnight Sun in additon to Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse
Um, yeah, I think the ones who are dissing Twilight ARE the ones with some reading experience. Hate to be the one to tell you. But hey, if you think the books are great, then that’s great.
i agree with Rose and have something to say to loonyluna : have you read the books? okay… its a cheesy romance… but so are many of the epic books of all time. Ever heard of Shakespeares? most of the plays he’s written are either Murder mysteries, “cheesy Romances” or both. how about Jane Austen or Charlotte Bronte? Walt Disney anyone?( and no thats not da guy who made Disney World this was way before his time)again Cheesy romances…
Beside, that not the only thing twilight is about…its about a girl trying to identfy with herself..trying to find herself esteem
its about religion and how a person struggles against himself and the core of his being because he thinks he has no soul…
its about friendship and loyalty and about in the end who are you and how far you are willin to go to save the people you love , even if it cost you your life, even if those people hate eachother and even if in the end they hate you.. it really is very beautiful… as is HP dont get me wrong, it’s just a different kind of beautiful
dats awesome mimblewimble, it really is… but to each its’s own right ?
thanks for backing me up jennelle really. I agree about Rowling and Meyer both having amazin writting talents comparable to Bronte and Austen (just barely b-cuz these are 2 very different eras) but lets try to keep it respectful …like i and mimblewimble said …if they dont like the book great.. if they do dats great to
but i have to ask mimblewimble and looneyluna(??)why they dont like it
eat this all you twilight haters!! i love twilight, it’s really really good! dont get me wrong, HP is still #1 because you cant REALLY compare the 2, they’re so different, but twilight has the romance, which probably means it’s only appealing to teenage girls, but still, i love them. edward is my future vampire lover!
to Ugg somewhere on page 4 ::the dialog is poorly written because its DIALOG it’s how da people in da book TALK same thing in Harry Potter:: its DIALOG!!!!!! you freaking Idiot .. and to Rose on page 5 who cares about repectifulness when two perfectly good books and authors are being pitted against each other by idotic pothheads (or wat ever potter fans call thwmselves)and twi-hards

WOW. Are you people serious? Don’t sit up there on your high horse putting books you don’t like down. Seriously, when you say Twilight is just a plot-less love triangle or a classic story about a girl stringing along some chums-I’ve got news for you! What do you think Harry Potter is? It’s the basic plot line where good starts to loose a bit before it comes back and kicks evils ass-with a few love attractions and mystical beings thrown in for our entertainment. I mean, get real people! All stories are like this. I think the Twilight saga is just as good if not better than the Potter series. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Harry Potter series(except for books 5 and 6-yuck)but there’s other books out there, so don’t be so quick to judge if people compare other books to harry potter(his dark materials SUCKS by the way)-just let it go.

Oh my god! some of you people are being incredibly rude about Stephenie. She’s not trying to steal Jo’s Thunder! Stop hating!
