"Twilight" Author Stephenie Meyer Talks J. K. Rowling

In a new interview on MTV.com Stephenie Meyer, the author of the popular “Twilight” novels, discusses Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling along with the similarities she finds between the “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” series. While Mrs. Meyer notes she has not yet had the opportunity to meet her fellow author, she does say she “would love to sit down and talk with her.” She continues, noting the fact that while both series are hugely popular among younger readers, comparing one series to the other is something she finds difficult to do. She states:

“The interesting thing about the comparison is that I think you can compare my fans to her fans more easily [than me to her]. I do think that we both have people who are just really really enthusiastic, and will come miles to see you and be involved, and everybody really cares about our characters. But the [’Harry Potter’ and ‘Twilight’] stories are just so different.”

“J.K. Rowling’s audience is everybody, so that means we all have a piece of her audience,” Meyer laughed. “It’s terribly flattering to be compared to her, but there’s never going to be another J.K. Rowling; that’s a phenomenon that’s not gonna happen again.”

Finally, Mrs. Meyer goes on to talk more on topics she would like to speak with J. K. Rowling about if given the opportunity, including Jo’s thoughts of the Harry Potter films, her fans, and her experience of being a popular writer. As readers will remember, actor Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory) has been cast as leading man Edward Cullen in the upcoming “Twilight” film. All three previously released novels in the “Twilight” series are available for purchase in our Cauldron Shop.

A lot of you guys are being really immature, some of you are obviously not giving twilight a chance and are just slagging it because people are comparing it to HP. And clearly these people don’t read anything but HP and don’t want anything to be better then it. These people are narrow-minded and should try reading other books. Just wanted to state a fact, Twilight is actually BRILLIANT, I’m 21 and I’m getting a little bored with HP now, its a bit childish for me. But Twilight is so much more mature then HP. The kiss scenes are just like ‘whoa!, very intense”. Twilight is a great story and, I agree the writing is not perfect but its still dam good. Edward and his family rock as vampires trying to be good and Bella is brilliant as the teen girl obsessed with the beautiful edward. I’m happy there is another book series out there thats being compared to Harry Potter, considering Harry Potter is over lol. Its nice to have a replacement, i can’t keep re-reading HP forever lol. It gets boring after a while haha

Hiya Kerrie, I agree with you that people who refuse to read anything other then HP are very narrow-minded and truly missing out on so many other great works out there. But, whoa, are you gonna have people moaning at you for saying HP is ‘over’ lol. Although you know I guess it has to end sometime. If you like the whole vamp/ warewolf thing you should try reading Laurel K Hamilton, the early ones at least. Although they’re definately not for kids lol

I have read Twilight … all three books!!! Honestly, I like them. I think that they are really Good => a Beautiful love-story! But that’s ALL! They just can’t give me any inspiration or special feeling. I felf a little shock when I found how popular the book is being NOW.

In conclusion, that’s just so REDICULOUS when people try to compare Harry Potter and twilight => they re very DIFFERENT kinds!!!

thanks tinktanktons, i will definatley read Laurel K Hamilton. I didn’t mean that in a bad way by the way, I still love HP and it will always be the first book series that i ever truely loved. But now that i’m older its time to move on. Even in Deathly Hallows, JK Rowling still never went into that much detail with kisses or mature stuff because she knew that children were still reading it. Twilight is sooo not for children lol. At the moment, as a 21 year old women Twilight is definatley more interesting then Harry Potter for me. Anyway Tinktanktonks i replied to your comment on the ‘Two more actors cast for HBP’ news post a few days ago. You haven’t replied and i was wondering if you would please i want to know what you think about my last two comments to you on that page. Thanks, have a nice day.

Ok sorry to all of those people out there who won’t read Twilight because of their love and “loyalty” to Harry Potter because you are missing one of the best books ever! I have read both and I am happyto say that Twilight has some elements that Harry Potter doesn’t have! It is one of the best books ever probably (dare I say it) better than Harry Potter! Don’t get me wrong I am a loyal HP supporter but Twilight is better in my opinion. As for Stephenie becoming the next JK probably won’t happen but she is getting up there! I have to commend her for accepting that fact so don’t be mean about it! So y’all people who won’t read Twilght GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND JUST READ THE BOOKS!

How stupid is try to compare two differents books like Harry Potter and Twilight. They are so different and great in their own ways. Please people be mature. Don’t start the fight “x is better because…”.

On the other side, I have to tell that Meyer is down to earth and sweet. She feel respect for others authors. I really like Twilight, is different from Harry Potter, you can compare apples and peaches. There’s no a competition so you don’t have to be rude telling how Twilight sucks or whatever.

I was a great fan of the Harry Potter series and now I’m a big fan of the Twilight series. I respect both sagas. And there is no need to bash any of the books, you know….

Twightobsessed: Could not have said it better myself! Well done! Fufichi: I’m not slagging Twilight, i love HP, i just don’t like the idea of people not reading Twilight because they are loyal to HP. Its silly. Twilight is great, it has elements and mature themes that HP does not have. HP is great too, but a little less exciting and more for children in my opinion.

See, that’s part of the problem. ALLCAPS, multiple exclamation marks, wonky punctuation and grammar, and a complete lack of a coherent argument make it hard to accept your opinion on what is or is not worthy reading. In fact, it makes a pretty solid argument against reading Twilight.

But then, I’m not thirteen: Twilightobsessed did not have wonky grammer and a lack of coherent argument. She made an excellent point that people should read the book before they judge it. People are boycotting Twilight for no good reason, just because they are loyal to HP and don’t want any other book to be in competition with it. Don’t you see how silly that it? It is possible to like HP AND Twilight, just like me and twilightobsessed do. And i have read twilight and i can honestly say that twilightobsessed is 100% right when she says that twilight has elements that HP does not have. People should give it a chance, most HP fans would like it if they actually sat down and read it i think. They’re both fantasy books after all.

I love SM she is so sweet. Yes, i don’t think she can be compare with JK Rowling but mustly because the series are completly different and of course HP have a lot more male fans lol. HP can appeal a larger group of people(families…kiddos), and Twilight can but the romantic parts can make some boys(and girls too lol) want to vomit lol. In my case i love both series. HP have a special place in my heart, is a wonderfull world and even my son is now a HP fan like his mom. BUT i loveee a lot the Twilight series too. They are both special and different in my opinion. This reminds me when people went to the MB talking about HP and N and others fantasies books, talking about what book or series is the best and trashing the fans and authors of the series they don’t like, you know all the bla bla bla. What annoys me a little with this thing is the people bashing others because they feel what they like is best. lol But at the end…they only make me laugh. Don’t hate, enjoy what you like, let the others know what you think without the bashing. My two chavos on this.

That means some HP fans can’t have a civilice conversation? Thats silly i am a big Harry Potter fan and i don’t talk c to people who come talking about others books. The bashing is childish and show that some people don’t have the capacity to talk without been rude.
