A bit of theater news tonight as Playbill is reporting that actress Kate Mulgrew has joined the cast of “Equus” which will open on Broadway this fall, starring Dan Radcliffe and Richard Griffiths. Kate Mulgrew is no stranger to the stage, having appeared in such productions as Titus Andronicus and the acclaimed Tea at Five. Kate is also familiar to many for her turn in films and television show such as the long-running Ryan’s Hope soap opera, but she is perhaps known more widely to readers for her recent turn as Captain Kathryn Janeway on the popular Star Trek: Voyager series.

The play “Equus” which met with such success last year for its run in London, is set to begin previews here in New York on September 25, and will have a 22 week run until February of next year. As noted many times previously, Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon) are set to reprise their roles in this production, however demand for tickets to these shows is quite high and are selling out quickly. If you are interested in attending, tickets for the production of Equus on Broadway are available via this link.

First!

That must mean that filming for Deathly Hallows will begin shortly after his Broadway run ends. Yea!

Avatar Image says:

cool! im the first to post!

Avatar Image says:

nevermind im not….......damn!

Avatar Image says:

oh no! are tickets already sold out? i went to that link and it says “tickets are not available at this time.” i really want to see the play.

Avatar Image says:

nevermind, i’m a dork and didn’t see the right link. does anyone know the dates that daniel is supposed to perform?

Avatar Image says:

I can see it now the jealous Dan Fans came tearing into this article, foaming at the mouth and searching desperately to see who this woman is. Then sighing with relief when they notice she is neither blond nor young enough or Daniel to be interested in. How amusing XD

Avatar Image says:

Where are the comments?

Avatar Image says:

HOLY CRAP.

Star Trek. And Harry Potter.

Now even more of a reason to buy tickets to new york and SEE THIS.

Avatar Image says:

Is she playing the mother or the colleague? Either way, the mother in the British production was extremely awful, so this is wonderful news.

Avatar Image says:

=] whoot, i’m going oct 10th! cannot wait!

Avatar Image says:

Recent, you call 1994-2001 recent? Anyway it’s good to see that the broadway version has some recognisable faces for the american audience. I mean Dan is well known troughout the world but I doubt many americans will care about Richard Griffiths.

Avatar Image says:

Hahaha. Captain Janeway and Harry Potter together in a Broadway play. Brilliant.

Avatar Image says:

Back in the UK they’re doing hamlet with Captian Picard and Doctor Who. Even better the english dub of the Hayao Miyazaki: Nausicaa has Captian Picard, Admiral Adama and Luke Skywalker in it more than enough to make any scifi fan pee in their pants.

Avatar Image says:

The film Nausicaa that is

Avatar Image says:

Wow! That’s amazing

Avatar Image says:

Kate Muldrew was also Mrs Columbo. But I always like her as the only female captain of a Star Trek ship in Voyager.

Avatar Image says:

The thing is, most Star Trek casting are from theatrical backgrounds and after their stint in Star Trek returns gleefully back to stage. Harry Potter is filled to the brim with theatrical actors too which is how I believe Dan Radcliffe caught the theatre “bug” ;) Lucky he did, he seems to be made for it. Its wonderful to see Dan’s life in progression. He will have his ups and downs as do everyone else but his is such a positive direction and he really seems to enjoy it.

Avatar Image says:

Awwww… wish I was in New York for that. I’d love to see Janeway on stage!

Avatar Image says:

I loved dan in equus! 1st Comment!

Avatar Image says:

Webmaster: The comments can only be viewed once a posting has been made. Its actually quite amusing therefore, to see comments announcing “FIRST” far down the page!

Avatar Image says:

Hope she’s not playng opposite Dan…..She’s 53 years old! :)

Avatar Image says:

Why am I not seeing these comments??

This is such good news, she will be perfect.

Avatar Image says:

Will Kate Mulgrew play the Judge Heasther or Mrs. Strang? I have tickets in September but your link says the tickets are not available yet.

Avatar Image says:

I love Kate Mulgrew

I’m a trekkie as well (duh!!), and am still watching the Voyager reruns when I can.

I have never had an interest in Equus, but I’d be interested to see her perform. Seeing Dan and Richard would be a bonus.

And it looks like I’m first.

Avatar Image says:

Oh, I thought this was being done w/the same London cast. What part will she be playing?

Avatar Image says:

Kate Mulgrew will be a marvelous addition to the cast! Her TV roles have not really shown her acting abilities to their best advantage.

Avatar Image says:

Yeah – I love Kate Mulgrew. I’ve always said if there was a movie of my life, she would play me! I’m seeing Equus in October and I was so stoked about that before casue I love the Dan Man and think Richard Griffiths is terrific and have laways liked the play – but now…whoohoo just a little extra goodness. Now when they do intereviews and he says Kate I can blissfully pretend he’s speaking about me! HAHA!

Captain Janeway meets Harry Potter and Uncle Vernon – fandoms everywhere collide!!

Avatar Image says:

Yeah for Captain Janeway.

Avatar Image says:

I hope they annouce more of the cast soon.

Avatar Image says:

Cool. :)

Avatar Image says:

She will be portraying Hester Solomon who is a magistrate

Avatar Image says:

Cool! I wish I could see it :(

Avatar Image says:

Ignore this, just posting so I can read the other posts :)

Avatar Image says:

OMG! I’m sooooooooooooooo important because I made the first commment! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Avatar Image says:

OMG, Kate is one of my favorite actresses. Saw her in the one woman show on Katherine Hepburn in Seattle. She is fanatatic. Twice the trills.

Avatar Image says:

Wow…they mentioned ME on Leaky! :) Wish me luck, Dan is the hottest guy on Earth- I am SO lucky to be working with him!

Avatar Image says:

Ok, I’m going to date myself – I was in HIgh school when Ryan’s Hope started, and I followed it long into the 1980’s until I left for the business world after Universisty. This woman was the one and only reason I watched the show. Her acting abilities were honed on that set and I have avidly followed her career ever since. This will be a wonderful addition to an already fantastic cast. Well done, Kate!

Avatar Image says:

Interesting… What part is she playing?... Probably the mother since she is kind of old for the girlfriend character.

I wish I could watch this play! I read it, and loved it… quite disturbing.

Avatar Image says:

Where are the comments. It says 41 comments on the front page???

Avatar Image says:

Wow…Harry Potter meets Star Trek….how bizarre…

Avatar Image says:

Why are the comments gone?

Avatar Image says:

Why does the front page say there are a bunch of comments for this item, and when you read the article, there are none?

Avatar Image says:

Carol, she plays the judge. Sue, i think the previews begin Sept. 5.

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

Avatar Image says:

OMG OMG OMG!!! CAPTAIN JANEWAY! I was dying to see this and now I will KILL TO GET TICKETS!

Avatar Image says:

And who is going to play Jill ???? It`s more imtortant to know, for me ; )

Avatar Image says:

I always loved Capt. Janeway (I think I am one of the few). One of my favorite lines in the Star Trek series: “the past is the present, the futre is the past; these time-space conundrums always confused me.” They confused us too Janeway! Good for Kate Mulgrew, glad to see she’s back on stage. It should be a great production with that cast. Daniel Radcliffe is sharing the stage with some great veteran stage performers and I’m sure he will definately hold his own – he seems so mature and level-headed for his age.

Avatar Image says:

The Equus official website site has also been re-configured for the Braodway run with Daniel and Richard

Avatar Image says:

@ Miley…........so then why even comment on it?lol! Thanks TLC for this news!

BTW:: The Hollywood and Variety are reporting that clips were shown from HBP at a film conference …...as well as a montage of Harry introed on video from Dan Radcliffe

Avatar Image says:

sorry, posting just to read

Avatar Image says:

Posts message so that she can read the other messages….

Avatar Image says:

I absolutely can’t wait to go see Equus. My cousin and I are going in October. I know they have said that no cameras are allowed or something like that, but I swear I am going to figure out some way to take a few photos. Surely they can’t not allow you to bring your cell phone with you so I bet as long you aren’t using a flash to take it you could probably get away with taking a photo or two on your phone. I hope…

Avatar Image says:

Haha I agree with bella, I was thinking the same thing and I’m going in October also! I’m sure there is some way…plus I’ve seen numerous people taking pictures at other broadway productions and you could even hear the clicking noise of the camera a mile away! It’s possible.

Avatar Image says:

i would dearly love to see this production of this play

Avatar Image says:

i bet your phone will be taken from you if they catch you taking photos….this play is a different situation than others

Avatar Image says:

Good choice!

Avatar Image says:

harry potter is 1 of the most handsome artist in the hollywood!!..

Avatar Image says:

Cool.

Avatar Image says:

they never fixed this…

Avatar Image says:
