There is a new article online from Home Media Magazine which gives information on a limited theatrical release in the US for “Ballet Shoes,” the BBC film staring Emma Watson (Hermione Granger). Set to take place in a total of “171 theaters in 77 markets across 35 states,” the showings will start on August 26th, the week prior to the film’s DVD release in the US on September 2. Additionally, the article notes that “All participating theater chains within a 20-mile radius of the showcasing theaters will begin playing the film’s trailer Aug. 1 and will feature the theatrical poster beginning Aug. 4.” Readers will remember “Ballet Shoes” was first broadcast on BBC1 last December. The release of the Region 2 DVD in the UK followed shortly after in January.

Sweet story, sweet movie. Not one of those “OMG, what a fabulous movie!” But a very enjoyable one nonetheless. I watched it in parts on YouTube. The 3 sisters are great. I’ll be buying the DVD as a gift for a special young girl.

The other two lead girls knocked socks off Emma’s acting and the film’s pretty dull but hey, it’s Emma Watson so the Americans will be fawning no doubt no matter how rubbish it is.

I saw it on youtube, lol, it was okay-it was a sweet story, but again Emma Watson has those small little annoying habits that makes me mad. It was a good movie though, nothing I would pay theater money for tho.

I have to agree with you. The other two girls were far better than her, which is kind of pathetic since she’s older than them and has done 5 blocbuster movies with the finest British actors. You would think she’d be pretty damn good right now.

The movie was, imo, boring so I’m really surprised it’s being released in movie theatres.

I’m going to have to agree with you a little bit. I didn’t think it was that boring, it was good overall, but not a WOWWW movie. (: The other girls did do better than her now that I think of it. Emma was just pretter. Haha. :D

I watched on youtube. If it’s playing near us, I’ll go see it again with my mom.

I read “Ballet Shoes” years ago and loved it. it is a really sweet story. I also enjoyed the movie very much. All 3 Fossil sisters were very good. I thought Emma did very well and should be very proud of her performance.

Also, i would like to add, that i think Emma did a better job as Pauline Fossil then Hermione Granger…that is all.

I have to disagree with everyone who says it was rubbish. It is not an adventure film – it is a story of 3 sisters in 1920/30s London who go to stage school. If that sounds like a rubbish synopsis to you then don’t bother. But I loved it when it was on TV at Christmas, bought the DVD and have watched it several time since. Definately a chick flick though!

Emma’s performance was good. The other girls were great especially Petrova but then I never thought Emma was the best child actress in Britain – probably just the luckiest and richest!

Also fab supporting performances from the adults – I LOVE Victoria Wood (nana) she’s a comedic writer actress and standup national treasure. Don’t know if anyone in the US would have heard of her.

Emma gave a great performance. Her character was so much more complex than the other two sisters and she nailed it. Hopefully this will open up some doors for awards, Emma got really good reviews from the critics when it first came out.

Emma did a very good job indeed, and garnered some very good reviews in Britain. I can’t wait to get the DVD.

The usual carping of the female Emma-haters isn’t even annoying any more; it’s mainly just pitiful—absolutely predictable and utterly unimportant.
