Mrs. Lovegood’s Experiment Contest


Luna Lovegood is one of the favorite characters in the Harry Potter series as she walks around the school with her Quibbler and talks about Crumple-Horned Snorkack and Nargles. We met Xenophilius Lovegood in Deathly Hallows,
but we know very little about Mrs. Lovegood. We know Luna resembles her
and that she was an exceptional witch that liked to experiment, but
that’s about it.

For January’s contest, the Contest Team would
like you to write a story about one of Mrs. Lovegood’s experiments. For
our sakes, please not the one that killed her! Please also keep to
canon as much as possible (e.g., if you’re describing how she looks,
keep in mind what Luna looks like!).

General Guidelines:

• Write a story about one of Mrs. Lovegood’s experiments in 500 words or less.
• For
  this contest, made-up spells/potions/etc are acceptable in relation to
  creating Mrs. Lovegood’s experiment, but must be relatable to the Harry
  Potter universe. Please be consistent with canon from the books for
  everything else.
• Anyone 13 years of age and over may enter the contest, including staff members who are not involved in the judging process.
• One entry per person.
• All
  submissions must be the original work of the contestant. Any entries
  found to contain the work of another author will be disqualified.
• All decisions by the judges are final.
• All entries must meet PG-13 standards of decency and good taste.
• The first place winner will receive a custom made wand donated by Wizard Wood Wands and 200 MyLeaky points.
• All submissions must be e-mailed to [email protected] by 11:59 pm (EDT) on January 31st, with “Mrs. Lovegood’s Experiment” in the subject line of the e-mail.
• Please
  copy-paste your story into the body of the e-mail and include a name to
  be used for authorship (real name or Leaky Lounge name).
• The judges will be looking for creative, interesting and canon correct stories that are well written. You may find the “tips and hints” helpful.
