As readers will recall, potential plans for a permeant UK film base and Harry Potter visitor attraction at Leavesden Studios, the home-base for the production of the Harry Potter films, has been in the news as proposals passed through city council boards. News has come today courtesy of the Wadford Observer that plans for the expansion have been approved by the Three Rivers District Council’s development control committee. The paper reports:

Warner Brothers, which has brought world-wide fame to the former aerodrome complex with its Harry Potter franchise, can now begin a programme of redevelopment worth an estimated £100million ’ creating hundreds of jobs and providing a boost to the local economy.

The company, which will now purchase the site outright and use it as its European filming base, will build new film stages, production and administration facilities.

It will also open a Harry Potter themed visitor attraction to cater for up to 5,000 visitors a day.

The site, set to open in 2012, will “offer tours of old Harry Potter film sets when production on the franchise comes to a conclusion later in the year.”
Many thanks to Jodi for mailing!

This is great news! Avatar ImageBookNookKara says: I want to go to England so bad to see so many things...this could be one of them! :oDAvatar Imagenealiezealbie says: just another reason for me to head across the pond! :D im so glad that they are keeping bits of hp around there--it kind of sounds like i mini-museum. hmm. if anyone gets the chance to go, you should report back to leaky & tell us how it was!! :)Avatar ImageLittle Light says: Good news!Avatar ImageI love my Spectra Specs says: I'd love to go when it opens! Avatar ImageNicci Weasley says: Fantastic news!!!!Avatar ImageRhiannon7 says: First the Hogwarts Express and now this. To hell with Orlando. UK here I come!Avatar Imagejillians642 says: I hope it's done well and respectfully and becomes a strength for the community, not a detriment. These are all things that should be inherent in Harry Potter, after all, and that's what I would want to go see and support for sure!Avatar Imagemolly43 says: Wow! another reason to go to England. ..... if only I had the money. But the idea that a part of HP works will be reservedm gives hope it's continuation. Avatar ImageFilmGirl27 says: That is so cool!Avatar Imagerohit_albus severus says: Thats a damn good news...thanks wb...potter rules:-DAvatar ImageEvagirl says: YAY, something for those of us who live too far from Orlando.Avatar Imagelurking_llama says: Woo, something that isn't Orlando! Although I don't mind HP things going to America (I understand that a theme park in the US is going to get more visitors than one in Britain) it's nice that the studio is going to stay put and be opened up, I would love to go and see it when it opens.:-)Avatar ImageI Heart Harry Potter says: Yay! We get something in the UK !! :DAvatar Imagehereward says: I think you mean Watford rather than Wadford ;) This is great news for the local area, giving it some much needed vibrancy and a very cool place for people to work. Avatar ImagePollytomat says: "... old Harry Potter film sets... " so sad! however, the idea is great! Warner Bros. will not only create jobs and build a new european film studios but also will do an amazing present fot all HP fans! :) Avatar Imagepotterforpresident says: Isn't it nice that because of Harry Potter there are now new job openings for everybody? Harry Potter is a legacy that nobody would soon forget.Avatar Imageginnyrose says: SQUUEEE yay this just what we need in the uk and the jobs too Avatar Imagecha_granger says: Wow, that makes me want to go to England more than before!! Good idea to make the studio alive. :)Avatar Imagekiwimci says: Woo I'm all for this, It's nothing but positives! I was always kind of peeved that the Wizarding World of HP went to Orlando. I know it had to but it didn't stop me being pissed off. It's so British and the thought of walking around Hogsmeade is sweltering heat hearing nothing but American accents was my idea of a nightmare. But this is fantastic, the UK holds the actual sets, the authentic ones and this side of the pond forever gets to keep that. Positive number 2 this is fantastic news for the British film industry because there was no denying there would be a gap left after DH where 800 people would be out of work and I'm over the moon that WB are the 1st Hollywood studio to kick up a European production base in the UK. That's fantastic for the industry. Not to mention it'll be up and running for 2012 just in time for the Olympics and Leavesden is only about 40 mins outside London. Win all round!Avatar Imagegirlatty1 says: A good move for that community.Avatar Imagemoglet says: Exciting news and great to have something here, and of course they are the REAL thing. Squeeee!Avatar ImageMadam Snape says: That's wonderful news! It'll be fantastic to tour through the sets... Thanks to WB for keeping the visual aspect of Harry Potter's magic alive!Avatar ImageEmmaline10248 says: Great!!Avatar ImageJessSnape says: Just one more thing to add to the list of HP stuff I need to do!!Avatar ImageLove is the greatest magic says: Yay, finally something I can go and see. I love the idea of a theme park but it is just too far away for me. This will involve travel but at least a train ticket there would be cheaper than a flight to America. Avatar Imagespiritbound says: Yay i would so go there :D Excited much :DAvatar ImageFifi says: I'm so happy that they aren't destroying the sets. Lol, imagine in a 100 years the sets are still a growing tourist attraction..."Ladies & Gentlemen, please take your seats to watch the movie of how Harry Potter came to be in this world 100 years ago.." LOL! :DAvatar ImageBewareoftheNargles says: WOOOOOOOOOOOT! I'm so excited to go to Orlando, but this is awesome, something I actually live REALLY REALLY REALLY close to!!!!!!!! I need to visit UK!!!Avatar Imagehrhgnl says: I would love to go to the Leavesden studio/park when it opens. I really want see the original sets and props where they were used.Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: That is wonderful! They are going to finally make the Harry Potter studios open for the public! This is total dream come true!Avatar Imagehewy says: Now if I could only afford to cross the pond to see this piece of wonderfulness!! That would be on a par with the WWoHP in Orlando. This should help the economy of locals!! This is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Avatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: I hope that one day I can afford to make the trip to visit this fantastic location.Avatar Imagex_Potter_Lover_Forever_x says: cool, cool, cool!! hehe!! Avatar Imagex_Potter_Lover_Forever_x says: cool, cool, cool!! hehe!! Avatar Imagewhyalltheglitter says: That's really cool! And for whoever did the post.... Permanent isn't spelled permeant.Avatar Imageazna70 says: That's fab, i wont have to save up to go to the USA (which would have took years) just to see a glimpse of Potter World.I can be precisely where they filmed it.Avatar ImageGryfindoorGirl115 says: It can't come soon enough :)Avatar ImageWeetzie says: Awesome! It's easier to get to Britain than the US. Avatar ImageHBPFan says: Excellent!! Next time I go to England I am definitely going to that!!!! I am, I am I AM!! :DAvatar ImageHGROSS44 says: Way to go WB you are using you head in the right way and spending some of the money you have made off HP in a good and noble way. Thanks WBAvatar ImageSigmaKnight says: Need to add this on my list of things to do when touring the UK.Avatar Imagechristie says: Great! Would love to visit.
