MTV Discusses “What’s Worked Best” in the Harry Potter Movies

As readers will recall, the filming of “Deathly Hallows” wrapped two days ago, inspiring sadness in a few of the actors who worked on the films. Today, MTV commented on what they believe the best elements of the six movies that have already been released are, as well as the moments they think will resonate most in “Deathly Hallows: Part 1″ and “Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” For “Goblet of Fire” MTV discusses Voldemort:

“Voldemort had made several appearances in a variety of forms in ‘Harry
Potter’ in the first three films, but it wasn’t until ‘Goblet
of Fire’ that he actually regained a corporeal form (and killed off Robert
Pattinson as Cedric Diggory, in the process!). The perfect casting
of Ralph Fiennes,
the intimidating character design and the actor’s chill-inducing use of
the Avada Kedavra curse made Voldemort a villain worth hating.”

You can read about the other seven movies here.

Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: Hmmmm. Not sure on this one...Avatar ImageTheThirdBrother says: I don't know if that is one of the best elements. I never found Fiennes that intimidating as Voldemort, let alone "scary"...Avatar Imagepotterfan4lyfe says: I like the part when it says "and killed Robert Pattinson" lmfao sorry i just had to write that no offense to any rob fans but it just cracked me up :P And Fiennes wasnt THAT scary. Only when my little cousin who is 6 watched it then yeah she was freaked out but mostly cuz of his nose lolAvatar ImageLeo_Lovegood says: Fiennes is brilliant as Voldemort. Avatar ImageHermione Elizabeth says: I think Ralph Fiennes is not scary per-say but more intimidating and demanding, which he should be. Voldemort isn't completely scary physically in my eyes, but his presence is what makes him scary and daunting in a way.Avatar ImageTassana Burrfoot says: Ralph Fiennes is the best Voldemort ever. And I do agree that he was quite intimidating. Though, I'm not sure if I agree with all those "elements." I think they forgot quite a few memorable moments within the Harry Potter movies...Avatar ImagePhoenixHollyWandCore says: It's what I hate about MTV, everything is about Robert Pattinson even went it comes to Harry Potter "he played cedric" seriously, who cares. Glad, Voldemort killed him, his character was useless, anyways! It's always Twilight this, Twilight that...sick of it. I don't care if I offended any (F***face) fans. And Ralph Fiennes....well we should be lucky we have him playing Lord Voldemort! Avatar Imageblessi says: ya, Ralf Fiennes is a really great villain :DAvatar ImageLORD BYRON says: I thought Brenden Gleeson is bloody BRILIANT as Moody. Now THERES A SCARY BLOKE!!! RoarAvatar ImageLORD BYRON says: Ive a question... How does Alan Rickman follow this role?! Or does he? Hes a brilliant actor, but everything forward of this..... NO ROLE WILL EVER LIVE UP TO SNAPE!! IT IS/WAS HIS ACE VENTURA/ MASK TO JIM CAREY! Avatar Imagechikitcorpuzvesterbaek says: the brilliance of this movie franchise lies in the casting - there has been given thought to who should play the characters. alan rickman, ralph fiennes, brendan gleeson, gary oldman... the list goes on, right? and the trio - what can i say? brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! there might be stuff from the books that are left out in the movies, but the movies have been great. better than most trash shown on screen these days.Avatar ImageGlacius says: yea, Ralf Fiennes is a really great villaineAvatar ImageLilypotter27 says: I feel like they missed out on sooooo much stuff... But it was still worth reading. I do agree that when harry sets off into the forbidden forest, i'll already be balling like an idiot by then.. Shoot i'll have started before the movie even begins.. Deathly hallows is definitely gonna emotional though. Avatar ImageLilypotter27 says: Oh and BTW, the casting of the Trio, HELL TO THE YES!!!!! The movies would never be the same or in my opinion this good if they didn't get that specific (along with many others) casting right. But they did, so Im extremely happy. :DAvatar ImageFilmGirl27 says: The casting of the actors is the series' greatest strength- Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman, Brendan Gleeson, Imelda Staunton, Ralph Fiennes- *WIN!!* :) And the trio are fantastic! :) I would add the chess battle scene in PS (brilliant), and the Knight Bus (*WIN*).Avatar ImageFleur-de- Lily says: I'm not sure on this one…Avatar Imagemargareth_6teengal says: i really hate it when robert pattinson is always connected when harry potter is mentioned.... who cares about his role!? it was not that much... and he didn't contibuted anything for harry potter to win any award.... twas a good thing his role ended on that same book... and i should mention, his character was not even harry's friend or anything.... malfoy's was way better and he should be always recognized like the trio.... and no one would be better for the role of voldemort other than fiennes.... he's scary even with just his presence....Avatar ImagePollytomat says: Yes, these all are remarkable elements of HP, but I agree that Malfoy's contribution is underestimated. And something should have been said about the decorators' work, about the whole magic ambience created in the movies. The Dementors - big PLUS! And of course, the Trio. They are the best. If there would have been an Oscar nomination 'best friendship picturing' it should have been given to Dan, Rupert and Emma. And not only once, but every year! :) Avatar ImageGiant Squid says: Yes, Voldemort was very good BUT SO WAS EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!!!Avatar ImageSmitch says: I couldn't begin to start listing where all films shine...There are so many great moments. The original casting, and then brilliant re-casting of Dumbledore, The usage of Scottish scenery, and the meticulous details that went into the set, costumes, and props. All characters played their roles admirably! The star-studded cast is enough to gawk at for days... If I had to go back and change one thing about the films, it would be including an enormous amount of uncut footage in a collector's edition, which I guess they offer with the two special editions. I just hope we see something EXTRA special after the last installments come out. Exciting / sad / amazing. Avatar ImageMidnightSun321 says: That was a pretty lame MTV article :) Leave it to Empire Magazine to do the awesome stuff, please :) No offence to anyone btw :)Avatar ImagePrincess Leia says: Nice article. Although, I have to disagree with the offhand comment that "Sirius' death was botched." I thought it was done very true to the book, and emotionally portrayed as well. But overall, I would tend to agree with their assessment and add that the scene they mentioned in DH2 is one that I most looking forward to/dreading!Avatar Imagehalfbloodprincesss says: in the article when referring to the deaths of Hedwig and Dobby it says, "Both deaths happen early on in the seventh book, and thus will be in "Deathly Hallows: Part 1." "...which means we will definately see Malfoy Manor, possibly Shell Cottage, and, depending where it is cut, possibly Gringotts. :) yay!Avatar Imageharrypotterfreak101 says: I agree also, Voldemort made guest appearences in the first three movie, but in an eerie way. But what made the Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix awesome was when Voldemort actually fought in the movies.Avatar Imageashowers36 says: I don't know if i fully agree with that statement but i do think one of the lines from GoF that stands out most to me is in the graveyard when he says " I want you to look at me when i kill you; I want to see the lights leave your eyes"! to me that was spoken just perfectly for that moment of the film.Avatar ImageNumeroUnoFan says: haha im glad that mtv wanted pattinson dead as much as meAvatar Imagetjerriam says: Fiennes is brilliant as Voldemort. and i do agree to Paul Nepinak.........Avatar Imagetjerriam says: Fiennes is brilliant as Voldemort. and i do agree to Paul Nepinak and margareth_6teengalAvatar Imagekiwimci says: Harry Potter would have certainly fallen flat on its ass is it wasn't for Radcliffe, Grint and Watson. Thank you thank you thank you Chris Colombus for that one. What an amazing stroke of good fortune Voldemort was terryfying when he first comes out of the cauldron, the special effects were stunning for that moment, and the sound effects aswell- incredible introduction to the arch nemisis. I loved this list especially when it said that the series triumphs greatly outweighs its failures. For all the complaining we do, they could have been a hell of a lot worse. Thank you WB: you did a fantastic job and we really appreciate your work, it was so important to us over the past 10 yearsAvatar ImageMoose_Starr says: lol well I have to agree with everyone that commented about LV killing Robert Pattinson L O L way to go MTV. But yeah, there is way more to HP than Robert Pattinson ... even tho he *was* killed in GOF lolAvatar Imagesueml says: Ummm - didn't Peter Pettigrew kill Cedric Diggory in the graveyard with the Avada Kedavra curse? Remember - Voldemort said: "Kill the spare" - and Pettigrew did it. That means MTV is (once again) incorrect and the actor did not conduct a "chill inducing use of the Avada Kedavra curse." Although - his "Crucio"s were very chill-inducing.Avatar ImageSeVeRuS3 says: i agreed with almost everything they said but i think that there was more they could have said but oh well :PPAvatar ImageGryffindor Cutie says: I just read that article and I agree that those scenes were pretty memorable for each of the films. I can't wait to see DH but yet I don't want it to end either.Avatar Imagecheeserpleaser says: I am definitely fascinated by the list they have formed but am definitely intrigueDd to hear what other fans think. Avatar Imagemew5645 says: cool!!!!Avatar Imagelynneb88 says: Ralph Fiennes is brilliant as Voldemort & Robert P. was great as Cedric! Avatar Imagemew5645 says: so sad Avatar ImageFresca says: I really thought that Ralph Finnes did a great job playing Voldemort. His mannerisms and the way he felt his face etc. when he regained his body were spot on. I thought too that he captured the menace of Voldie very well. The actors were all very good.Don't forget Umbridge! That was one nasty lady as played by Staunton.Avatar Imagegirlatty1 says: It's pretty hard to pick the one part of a HP film that worked best. I think that's rather superficial. I think some mention of the development of the Dumbledore/Harry relationship in HBP should have been made.Avatar Imagerohit_albus severus says: Cedric,"who are u? What do u want?" "avada kedavra" it was,no doubt,a well made scene... Avatar Imageazaadpotter says: Cant say that vlodemort is a cutting edge. but one things for sure. he is a villain worth hating.Avatar Imagekbicprez says: What in HP worked best for me: A very happy Harry flying on Buckbeak (my favorite scene in entire series) Alfonso Cuaron Kenneth Branagh Evanna Lynch Imelda Staunton Alan Rickman Emma Thompson Ralph Fiennes Brendan Gleeson Miranda RichardsonAvatar Imagekatielilly says: I think whats really made the movies great have been the actors. There is such great talent in all the movies! Unlike a lot of other movie franchises that have become very popular. *cough, cough, twilight*Avatar Imagehewy says: The article was good but has been pointed out Wormtail killed the spare. In mentioning all the fabulous actors and actresses in the series we can not forget Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Richard Harris and alot of marvelous young actors that held this whole thing together for 10 years. The trailer show Harry standing in fromt of 4 Privet Drive letting Hedwig fly away. What really happens in the film??????? Avatar Imageestrella22 says: I don't think that the writer of the piece was that familiar with the book 7. Dobby's death happens very deep into book 7 (about halfway through). So I'm not putting much faith in the article when it says that Dobby's death will be in the first part of DH. To me the sets, as well as the casting of course, were amazing. That first entrance to Diagon Alley in SS and to the Ministry of Magic in OotP were unbelievable. Avatar Imagekatielilly says: Yeah the article said Dobby's death would be in Part 1. That doesn't make much sense. They probably didn't realize it's much further in the book. Also, I love Hedwig, but I'm not going to be torn apart when he dies. I was shocked when Hedwig died, but I don't think it is going to be one of the most memorable parts from the movie. Avatar ImageLeper says: Of Kenneth Branagh: "The man probably could have made "Bratz" worth watching" YES! Amen to that!Avatar Imagejhangelgurl says: It's hard to choose just one moment. Why is MTV commenting anways. All they show is reality shows, music is non existant on the channel anymore anyways.Avatar Imagemolly43 says: I think all of the actors and actresses did a great job even Robert Pattinson . I don't fault him for being in Twilight. People have to make a living. It's not his fault tht people try to compare twilight (Ugh!) to HP (AAAAh...) . I see voldemort more as a hideous Adolf Hitler - rather than scary. Avatar ImageMistic Willow says: Hmmm!!! I loved all of the Actors and Actresses!!! I feel each and every one did an excellent performance/job. My favorites though are Harry, Hermione, Ginny, Ron, Neville, Dean, Fred & George, ALL OF THE WEASLEY'S, Hagrid, Snape, McGonegal, Trelawney, Felch, Sprout, Luna, Fang, Fluffy, Norbert, Centours, Madame Maximine,Kingsley Shacklebolt, Richard Harris ast Dumbledore/ and Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, The Dursley's, and ALL Ghosts, and if you count the villians, they played their parts very well Lord Voldemort, Bellatrix, Lucius Malfoy, Deloris Umbridge, Dracco, Narcissa, Death Eaters, and Dementors!!!!Avatar Imagewhyalltheglitter says: I think Voldemort is AWESOME! He is the best Voldemort ever!Avatar ImageLittle Light says: The casting is totally awesome.
