USA Today is reporting that Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling has written the foreword for the US version of “Dear Me: Letters to My Sixteen-Year-Old Self,” set for publication in the States on October 25. The report notes:

More than 70 writers, actors, celebrities and musicians including Kathleen Turner, Suze Ormond, James Franco and Aasif Mandvi share letters to their teen selves. Rowling writes in the foreword that she was touched by the letters’ “commonality … Nearly everyone who wrote, whether their letter is jolly or poignant, seems to have looked back on their younger selves with compassion.”

A portion of the book’s proceeds, the article goes on to say, are set to go towards Doctors Without Borders. A UK version of the book, also compiled by editor Joseph Galliano, was released in October 2009 and included letters from such noteable persons as UK audio book narrator Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson (Trelawney), Will Young, and SIr Elton John.
