J. K. Rowling appeared on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” yesterday, where she discussed The Casual Vacancy and talked a little bit about what it was like writing a hero figure for both The Casual Vacancy and Harry Potter. The political climate regarding benefits and welfare in both the UK and US was also delved into. There are two parts to the interview and you can watch them below.

Avatar Image2tal says: Brilliant!Avatar ImageWeenyOwl says: Really good to hear an interviewer asking JKR intelligent and informed questions for a change. I wish I could to hear a whole hour of these two together, so they could get into political and social and artistic issues in depth.Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: Good interview that!Avatar Imagesiena says: "The video is unavailable from your location." Hmpf !! :(Avatar ImageWON_TWO says: @siena, if you go to tunnelbear (dot com) and sign up, (its free) you can watch US programming. It works both ways so if you're in the US you can watch UK programming as well. Best of all it's not illegal, immoral, or fattening! lool ;+)Avatar Imagedavidenglish says: Check out the CBC radio interview here: http://www.cbc.ca/q/blog/2012/10/19/jk-rowling-on-q/Avatar Imagesiena says: Thank you very much for replying, Won_Two and davidenglish !! I agree it is a very insightful interview. I admire Rowling's attitude: "You have to be prepared to fail in life" and take risks, defying people's expectations. She is right - lightning might not strike a second time and it's brave of her not to rest on Harry Potter. She had something else to say to the world (and definately will have in future) and so she said it. And if people don't like it it's not the end of the world. Thank you for this :)Avatar Imagekiwimci says: Tunnelbear!! How have I never heard of this before! Won_Two you're a life saver!
