GeekyCon was such a smash hit this weekend it temporarily broke Leaky! GeekyCon came to a close today after 3 days of fandoms colliding in perfect harmony and unity. The event started off right with an amazing article from Buzzfeed about GeekyCon and our very own Melissa. It was a weekend of love and friendship and giving, with the Harry Potter Alliance, Esther Earl Ball, Harry and the Potters, Starkid Potter and more.

Bizjournals took a peak inside GeekyCon and interviewed some attendees, who couldn’t say enough about their enjoyment of the conference. There was lots of screaming, hugging, dancing, and talking. Held in Universal, fans enjoyed special events in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter that were included in the conference schedule. Over 5,000 fans came together like one big friendship family.

Attendees of GeekyCon enjoyed acting workshops, GeekyLit panels, writing panels, a live MuggleNet podcast, a game of Quidditch, too many panels on fandom discussions to name, and a chance to meet special guests and get autographs. The full schedule can be seen here.

Entertainment included Wizard Wrock: Harry and the Potters, Tonks and the Aurors, Draco and the Malfoys, and The Whomping Willows. Other music entertainers included Meghan Tonjes, Molly Lewis, Hannah Moroz and Lauren Fairweather. Other musical events included Disney, Broadway, and Glee singalongs.

Of course, we can’t forget the GeekyCon special guests. GeekyCon and LeakyCon have been honored to host many authors, screenwriters, actors/actresses, YouTube personalities, singers, directors, podcasters, and many many more. A few of this year’s special guests included: Jackie Emerson, Mary Kate Wiles, Maxwell Glick, Tessa Netting, Mike Rugnetta and Guy Norman Bee. Next year’s GeekyCon will welcome Divergent author, Veronica Roth.

The GeekyCon blog has posted full recaps of the first two days. There is nothing but gushings of love, appreciation and fun times for GeekyCon 2015 over all social media. It looks like attendees, volunteers, guests, and staffers had a truly magical experience. To discover more about GeekyCon, please visit their website. If you missed GeekyCon this year, have no fear, GeekyCon 2016 will be here before you know it! 2016 will also see the return of LeakyCon, as a mainly Harry Potter based fan conference. (Let’s face it, the Harry Potter fandom is so intertwined with other fandoms that there’s bound to be elements of other fandoms at LeakyCon, too. That’s how LeakyCon birthed GeekyCon, and LeakyNews birthed GeekyNews!) See you all next year!
