Eddie Redmayne Receives SAG and Golden Globe Nominations

Eddie Redmayne, the star of the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe for his role in Focus Feature’s film Danish Girl. Danish Girl stars Redmayne as Lili Elbe, one of the first people to undergo sex reassignment surgery.

Redmayne was nominated for a SAG Award in the “Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role” category and for a Golden Globe in the “Best actor in a movie, drama” category. At the beginning of 2015, Redmayne took home both the SAG Award and a Golden Globe for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.

The other nominees for the SAG are Bryan Cranston, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Fassbender. For the Golden Globe, Redmayne’s fellow nominees are Bryan Cranston, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender and Will Smith. The SAG Awards will take place on January 30th, 2016 and the telecast for the show will air on TNT and TBS. The Golden Globes will be held on January 16th, 2016 and the show will be aired on NBC.

Indiewire, Bustle, Variety and Awardscircuit all predict that Redmayne will also be nominated for an Academy Award. Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on February 28th, 2016 and it will definitely be interesting to see whether Redmayne will leave the show with the coveted Oscar statue for the second time in a row following his win last year from his role in The Theory of Everything.
