Noma Dumezweni (Hermione in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts 1 & 2) joins Miriam Margolyes (Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films), Toby Jones (the voice of Dobby in the Harry Potter films), and a number of other famous faces in the Letters Live charity event at Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden.

The event–which helps raise funds for charities like Ministry of Stories, First Story and Help Refugees–started yesterday and runs through October 8. Letters Live is inspired by Shaun Usher’s bestselling Letters of Note series and Simon Garfield’s To The Letter, and joins the voices of some of today’s finest talent with a series of touching letters penned by historical figures from around the globe.

Noma’s reading yesterday was from a letter written in 1932 by Hellen Keller, describing the Empire State Building to a doctor. In it, Keller recounted being “whizzed” up the Empire State Building.

Jamie Byng, a Director of Letters Live, says of the event:

“This third run of Letters Live shows to be held here in London looks set to be as memorable as anything we have ever done. The combination of great talent, remarkable letters, three important charities, packed houses and an amazing venue, should result in five unforgettable evenings that celebrate the humble letter and its immense power. And every night is unique.”
