Yesterday, Emma Watson started hiding copies of Maya Angelou’s Mom & Me & Mom around the London tube.

The autobiography is the book of choice for November, as part of Emma’s feminist book club, Our Shared Shelf. According to Yahoo, she collaborated with the community project, Books on the Underground, that makes a regular event of leaving free books on the underground. However, some of the books that Emma left had a pretty unique extra gift: a hand-written note!

On Goodreads, Watson explained the choice: “Vivian Baxter [Angelou’s mother] cuts a fiercely unapologetic figure, imperfect but admirable, and we discover not just how she had a hand in Angelou’s evolution as a black woman but also in her feminist perspective, her independence and self-awareness, all of which contributed to her unique way of looking at the world and the way she expressed herself on the page”
