Broadway, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, News
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes a significant step towards its 2018 Broadway premiere next week. As reported earlier this month by Leaky, tryouts for the Harry Potter play, which has run with much acclaim in London’s West End, are scheduled in New York February 20-22.
According to a recent listing on Backstage.com, now along with the scheduled audition dates, is a list of each role the production is looking to fill including a brief summary of their character as well as height and age requirements and expected pay.
As mentioned in a recent article from the Huffington Post, the casting call states that all ethnicities are welcome for every role listed. This note is particularly relevant to the history of the play. Most Harry Potter fans will recall that talented black actress Noma Dumezweni was cast as the adult Hermione Granger in the West End production, to the dismay of some at the time. As reported by Leaky here last year, Noma was chosen by Jack Thorne and John Tiffany as the candidate they, and J.K. Rowling, thought embodied the character of Hermione the best.
Below are the initial roles listed on the casting announcement. Click here to see the list in its entirety on Backstage.com.
Harry Potter: Male, 37-40
Maximum height of 5 feet 10 inches. Father of James, Albus and Lily. Married to Ginny. Head of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic.
