Break out the birthday cake and celebrate another year for Eduardo Lima! (And let’s do better than Hagrid on this one, Potter fans. We’re sure it tasted fine–Dudley didn’t seem to mind–but in all fairness, the birthday cake he brought Harry looked quite rough.) So in honor of his day, let’s recognize Eduardo Lima for his significant contributions to the Harry Potter series.

Eduardo Lima is a graphic artist hailing from Brazil and one half of MinaLima Design, founded with graphic artist Miraphora Mina. They have been involved in every Harry Potter film since the Prisoner of Azkaban, including the latest entry to the wizarding world, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Leaky previously reported on the amazing exhibit of Fantastic Beasts artwork at House of Mina Lima, where fans could peruse the many 1920s pieces created for the film. Every magazine cover, poster, advertisement, sign, window display, and newspaper that brought the period and wizarding world to life had to be specially designed by them.

And remember that opening newspaper montage which introduces the New York setting and tense mood of the film? It passes by so quickly that it’s difficult to catch all the detail, but make no mistake, Lima had a hand in every one. Mina told Leaky:

“Eduardo usually takes over the newspapers, we tend to end up doing everything together but if there’s anything hand drawn, I tend to take that on. But we cross over, we’re naturally drawn to certain things.”

On our visit to The House of Mina Lima, we found a signed photo from Dan Radcliffe which read:

“To Eduardo, Thank you for all your hard work! You made such a brilliant contribution to the series! Lots of love, Daniel Radcliffe xxx”

His artistry has been so appreciated over the years that, according to Harry Potter Wiki, numerous references have been included in the Harry Potter films.

To start things off, Edwardus Lima is listed as the author of The Monster Book of Monsters. A horrific honor, but an honor all the same. (Stroke the spine–remember to stroke the spine!)

The character Eduardo Lima also appears in photographs in Deathly Hallows Part I. He is noted as a wizard the Death Eater-controlled Ministry should watch closely. The Harry Potter Limited Edition – A Guide to the Graphic Arts Department: Posters, Prints, and Publications from the Harry Potter Films also cites a Daily Prophet report of a confrontation between an E. Lima and M. Mina in the final round of a dueling competition.

In another nod to Lima and his work on the newspapers and other art, an Eduardus Lima is listed in the byline of a front-page Daily Prophet article on Sirius Black in Prisoner of Azkaban.

With such a fantastic career already in the books (literally!), we look forward to Lima’s continued involvement in the fandom, whether its hosting a booth for the A Celebration of Harry Potter event at Universal Studios Orlando, bringing new exhibits to House of Mina Lima, creating art for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts sequel, or branching out into other films. (Check out this beautiful illustrated edition of Beauty and the Beast designed by Mina Lima and covered by Leaky!)

We wish you the happiest of birthdays, Eduardo Lima. May your day be as charmed as your work is charming!
