HBO has announced the additional of 21 new cast members for the upcoming series, set to debut in 2027. Most of the newly cast characters are Hogwarts students. Sorting them by their houses, we have the following new cast members for Gryffindor:

  • Eire Farrell as Katie Bell
  • Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson
  • Ethan Smith as Lee Jordan
  • Serrana Su-Ling Bliss as Alicia Spinnet
  • Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood

Newly sorted Ravenclaws, so to speak:

  • Aaron Zhao as Terry Boot
  • Scarlett Archer as Penelope Clearwater
  • Anjula Murali as Padma Patil
  • Eve Walls as Lisa Turpin

Joining Hufflepuff we have:

  • India Moon as Hannah Abbott
  • Jazmyn Lewin as Susan Bones
  • James Trevelyan Buckle as Justin Finch-Fletchley
  • Cian Eagle-Service as Ernie MacMillan

Last and certainly least, Slytherin (just kidding about that least bit):

  • Eddison Burch as Miles Bletchley
  • James Dowell as Lucian Bole
  • Henry Medhurst as Peregrine Derrick
  • Oliver Croft cast as Marcus Flint
  • Cornelius Brandreth as Terence Higgs
  • D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as Graham Montague
  • Laila Barwick as Pansy Parkinson
  • Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey

Another interesting bit of information that goes along with HBO saying that, given the time that the 10-year series allows for exploring the story in more depth than is possible in a feature film, Johnny Flynn, who plays Lucius Malfoy, has stated that he will be appearing in the first season even though his character does not appear much in the books until Harry’s second year. The first season will contain eight episodes.

Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the films, commented on both the new series and his replacement:

“They’re redesigning everything from scratch. They’re redesigning Hogwarts and the costumes, and they’re writing all these fabulous new scripts that are expanding each book into a whole season. And it’ll be fab — it’ll be for a new generation. It’ll be their version of Harry Potter.

“It all starts and comes from the books, and the books are beloved. But Johnny’s great. I can’t wait to see what everyone does. Frankly, all the cast are amazing. I’m really looking forward to seeing what John Lithgow does. All of them. It’s going to be fab because it’s not like I watch the films, because I’m in them, so that’s a bit weird for me. But now I can watch them with unalloyed fandom instead of thinking there’s a narcissism of watching myself.”
