News, Rickman

A year ago today, beloved and renowned actor Alan Rickman sadly passed away at age 69.

After the initial shock, sadness and despair, we’ve learned to honour Alan by remembering the legacy he leaves behind with his work, and the brilliance and humble, good-humoured nature he brought with his presence. The talent he portrayed in his well known performances in Love ActuallyTruly Madly Deeply, Die Hard, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (and many, many more!) will be cherished by people across the globe long after his death. He baffled us all with his unique ability to bring Severus Snape to life, and J.K. Rowling trusted him enough to tell him – and only him – the ins and outs of Snape’s life and death! He was a truly wonderful man, a brilliant actor, and is still sorely missed.

A video of Snape’s most important moments (in chronological order) has been circulating the internet in honour of the anniversary of the actor’s death, which is bound to make you more than a little teary. The Telegraph and Variety also shared iconic moments from Rickman’s career, which reminds us just how many iconic roles he portrayed so excellently throughout his life.

Daniel Radcliffe shared words on the more personal relationship between him and Rickman on set of Harry Potter, calling him “one of the loyalest and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry”. Many people who knew Alan Rickman personally shared their sincerest and fondest memories of his generosity and good nature, and Radcliffe shared a fact about his involvement in his life post-Potter that proved how dedicated Alan was to not only the industry he worked in, but the people around him. Dan called him an “extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny” man. His post continued:

“He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn’t have to do that”.
