We’ve already heard snippets of Emma Watson singing as Belle, as Disney strategically releases clips and teasers of the highly-anticipated film, Beauty and the Beast, to promote its upcoming theatrical run. We’ve even heard her sing the iconic Belle (Reprise)! But, for the first time, watch the actual film clip of Watson singing in one of the classic scenes from the original.

The scene is set in the “provincial town” where Belle lives with her father, Maurice. She dances and skips through the village as though in another world–and she is. She’s lost in the fantasy world where her imagination and her beloved books meet, replaying favorite parts as she goes about her day. She only breaks from her reverie to offer cheery greetings to the townsfolk who shake their heads in her wake. She’s “a funny girl,” not like the rest of them, that much is clear.

But don’t worry about Belle feeling rejected for her neighbor’s lack of understanding. She may seem like an outsider, but all the things that make her different, make her strong and empathetic. She has much to bring to the table in her own right–her opinions, her spirit, her genuine interests, her personal integrity. It’s what makes her love story with the Beast so compelling.

Leaky previously reported on Watson’s interview with Entertainment Weekly in which she commented on the growth of their relationship. She observed:

“There is this genuine sharing, and the love builds out of that, which in many ways is more meaningful than a lot of love stories, where it was love at first sight. They are having no illusions about who the other one is…They have seen the worst of one another, and they also bring out the best.”

If you doubt it, take a look at this new TV spot, which features another memorable scene from the 1991 animated original. Belle kindly meets the Beast where he is, sipping soup from her bowl rather than abandoning the table in disgust over his table manners. It’s a sweet display of the friendship that’s struck up between them–and a hint that there’s “something there that wasn’t there before.”

As the clip says, they’re perfect for each other, they just don’t know it yet! And in less than a month, we’ll get to see the whole story played out in spectacular fashion when the live-action remake opens March 17th. Emma Watson, known as Hermione Granger to Harry Potter fans, brings another fearless girl to the screen, and we can’t wait.
