As J.K. Rowling revealed long ago, she always envisioned Albus Dumbledore to be gay. Now that we’re getting a more in depth glimpse into his younger years in Fantastic Beasts, fans are curious as to how this will affect his character.

Since Jude Law was recently announced to be cast as Young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, naturally we are wondering what his thoughts are on this matter. When asked about the upcoming performance during an interview for TheWrap‘s Emmy magazine he responded:

“I don’t know, I read that too- first of all, you have to know, I haven’t read any of the script yet, but that’s another layer to what creates this great wizard we’ve come to know and love.”

It seems that Law is set on hearing what Rowling’s vision for Dumbledore is for the next few films before making any of his own decisions or assumptions.

“I found out about it when I was in the final prep for this play I’m doing [referencing Ivo van Hove’s Obsession]-there was a great celebration at my house. Once this is done, I’ve got to put my head down and think about it. I hope to start by meeting J.K. Rowling.”

While he sounds a little preoccupied at the current moment with his other projects, it is clear the Law is very excited and intrigued to find out what taking on the role of Dumbledore will entail.

“I’m very curious to hear about Albus as a young man, I’m intrigued to meet her and to lift the stone on him.”

Let’s hope his meeting with J.K. Rowling happens soon and that she instills in him all the insight he will need to live up to the Dumbledore we became so accustomed to after all of the Harry Potter books and films.
